Easter
Anyway growing up my mami didn’t have much to do with tradition or decoration or anything. She wasn’t the domestic diva that I hope to be one day. J So in my family we do Easter baskets for my hubby’s nieces and nephew. We also bought our son his first Easter basket. I actually went to the store and got a good price for nice looking baskets. I bought four baskets for under $20. We did make them last year but with a toddler this year I don’t want to bother with all that. Plus they were cheap.
I do want to start traditions like Easter egg hunting and coloring eggs. We now live in a Bi-Cultural environment. Let me explain. I like French fries (American) but I also like my fried platanos (plantains) or tostones too. And I know I’m not the only one. Lots of Latinos who are first generation American or we raised here are the same way. We know our roots but we embrace the American culture as well.
So that brings me to this question… what traditions do you have with your family? Do you consider it an American tradition or a Latin Tradition?
Today is the first day of Spring so I’m going to be talking a little bit in the next few weeks about Spring Cleaning and finding out what you do around this time to clean up and how do you get it done. Talk to you soon and Happy Easter!

Hey Jai, growing up we would get the new Easter outfit for church too, color the eggs and have a hunt. With my boys, we haven’t done that. They do have a new suit for Sunday, and we may color eggs, but really don’t have a tradition. I hope you share pictures of little man. He is so cute!

Hi, I think having traditions is important especially if you have kids. As a child we didn’t have much of a tradition for Easter or anything else for that matter but in 1997 my 1st daughter was born and so did “traditions”. I now have three daughters and I have traditions for every holidays we celebrate as well as non-holidays. For Easter every year my daughters buy chocolate bunnies for their cousins, color eggs, and my sibling and I get together and plan the easter egg hunt in a home or park depending on weather for all the kids. I like the thought of my girls reminiscing when they get older and sharing the same traditions with their own kids. I consider my traditions to be both Latin and American. Growing up in the American world and being a Latina my world is like you said “Bi-cultural”. Go for it and have fun in the process!

I never had any traditions growing up either. Now that I’m a Mami I try to get hubby’s family involved and do more get togethers. I try to start new traditions every holiday!
That’s a good idea about the easter egg hunts. I feel the same way I want my son to look back and reminisce on how great his childhood was. And everyone is so busy usually the holidays are really the only time we can relax and enjoy each other’s company.

So did you color eggs this year? I’m definitely going to do it next year!
