What would you do for Shoes?

What would you do for a hot pair of shoes? I went to my local Dot’s store a few weeks back and fell in love with this black and white pair. I thought about it for like two weeks and finally just bought them. I even got a sweater to match. I’m wearing my hot little sweater with my hot little shoes and they are the talk of the office. In the morning I absolutely loved how comfy they are. In the afternoon….not so much. So I’m writing this blog post from my desk at work with bare feet because they absolutely KILL. Now, I have a collection of heels. A nice collection if I do say so myself. But I will not, repeat will not wear a pair that hurt my feet. All my heels are comfy (believe it or not!) I was so ready to return these bad boys and I got these suggestions:
Walk around the house with socks on and the shoes to make them stretch.
I thought maybe next time I can wear stockings/pantyhose with them. They have those ankle ones that would be good for these shoes. Right now though, my toes hurt and I don’t have any backup. I’ve included a picture. What do you ladies think? They are platform peeptoes. You can’t tell too much by the picture.

Are your kiddies Yu-Gi-Oh Fans?

My booba is too young yet to be a fan but I wanted to share this info with any Mamis out there with kids who are fans. They are coming out with a cool way to launch their new series “Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D”. Kids are going to be able to vote and decide the show’s theme song! I think it’s a great way to get kids involved in voting and prepping them for voting later on in life. But anyway they have until September 7 at midnight to vote. There are eight options you can listen to and pick which one you like the best. Here’s the link. The series debuts on September 13 at 10:30 on the CW4Kids and the winning song will be featured during the opening credits.
This new series features new duelists, vehicles, speed, competition, new challenges and storyline. There will be 51 episodes for this season.

Hearts are again breaking everywhere!

So I am going to come right out and say it. Ricky Martin just has to be gay. I have nothing against gay people but there’s been so much speculating about him and he’s just so hot that I’m sure ladies everywhere are crying about this. Why do I think he is gay?

News broke that Ricky Martin is now a father. But not the good old fashion way. He had a surrogate. At first when I heard the story I thought ok someone fathered his baby that’s nice. But no, someone basically had his babies for him (he had twin boys) but it sounds like he’s got sole custody. Shoo, he could have called me I would have given him some babies! Well congrats anyway. All I’m saying is…out of all the women that would die kill someone to have a baby with him the good old fashioned way he goes in a cup? Really? Unless there’s some fertility issues it sort of makes you wonder doesn’t it? He’s been showcased as a Hottie of the week not too long ago and he will always be a hottie to me no matter his preference. But if that is his preference I’m just sad I can’t hate on some other chick. You just can’t compare apples and oranges mija. That’s just real talk!

Hidden Shopping Gems

PC Magazine released the Top 100 undiscovered websites of 2008. Here are some highlights
www.catalogchoice.org – A free service that lets you refuse catalogs you no longer wish receive. Cleans out your mailbox and saves a few trees at the same time. Being Green and saving Green! I hear that!
www.gazelle.com – Pays cash for not-yet-obsolete tech gear, including cameras, MP3 players, cell phones and laptops. This would mean old but not so old that no one uses it anymore. J
www.somethingstore.com – For $10, SomethingStore will send you…something. You don’t get to pick, and the process is random. From costume jewelry to an iPod. This sounds kind of cool. I like getting things in the mail besides bills.
J That’s why I buy a little catalog stuff and a little BMG. Let’s not even talk about my CD collection!
us.zilok.com – Connects users with stuff to rent with users who have stuff for rent.  So instead of buying that Nikon D80, you can rent one to use on your vacation for a few bucks a day. This sounds like a great idea.
www.typobuddy.com – TypoBuddy helps you out by searching for commonly misspelled words on eBay – less competition for these typo entries means better deals for you. Damn I can just count the money I’d be saving using this!

Here’s the link for the full list!

To Twitter or Not to Twitter?

That is the question. I’ve heard so many things about it and I know some fellow mommy bloggers that I visit use Twitter but I just don’t get it. I’ve read about it and how this new form of “micro blogging” tells people in 140 characters or less what you are doing but I don’t feel like I’m interesting enough to tell you what I’m doing.

Really to answer the question right now I am sitting at work avoiding to work, writing a blog post about twitter. In my efforts to keep myself awake for the rest of the day I’m drinking a coke What would I be doing later? I’m watching the local (not pro) baseball team play with fellow co-workers and my family. Then working on some business stuff. That sure as hell doesn’t sound exciting. I wouldn’t follow myself. But at the same time I feel like I’m losing out on something. And then of course I fell like my Mami Blog “persona” and my business persona are different. That’s why I named my blog Mami’s Time Out because it’s a place where I can talk about whatever that entertains me (and hopefully you) at the moment. It’s where we can all just let our hair down and be ourselves for a moment. It’s like a meeting in the ladies room. Obviously you don’t act the same around family and friends as you do with business contacts. This is why I also use a handle. What client of mine would care about what color I’m contemplating for my hair or my thoughts on lip gloss vs. lipstick? You think that person would take me seriously as a businesswoman? Nope.

So what are your thoughts on twitter? Do you think it’s a complete waste of time? Do you use it for personal or business?

Hottie of the Week! #19

I’m drooling over here! My goodness this man is gorgeous! And his voice is to die for!! His name is Alejandro Fernandez and he’s a Mexican singer also nicknamed the Potrillo which I think means cowboy. I believe it does. Anyway he’s got this song I love but of course I have Mommy brain right now and can’t remember. I know it’s something about a kiss. His birthday is April 24, 1971 and he is the son of Mexican singer and actor Vicente Fernandez. My dad loves all of his movies. He watches all those old school Mexican wild west type of movies and loved him. I never got past Vicente’s big old eyebrows. He’s looking pretty weathered as of late.

But anyway, this Papi Chulo (hunk) has had double platinum success with his Cd “Muy Dentro De Mi Corazon” or Very Close to My Heart. Take it in ladies! He’s hot even in all that Mexican costume that’s got him all covered up!

I don’t care…I’m not wearing it!

I’m an eighties baby and I’m freaking out about all this fashion from the eighties making it’s way back. I never thought it would happen, honestly. I was cool with the remake on the seventies fashion with the bell bottom jeans and all that. But here are the following things I refuse to wear even if they are trendy:

Leggings: Been there done that. Didn’t like it then sure don’t now.
Reeboks: the ones in all the different colors. I call them the skittles Reeboks. Also not going to happen.
Earrings to match the Reeboks: I think I wills stick with gold and silver thank you. I guess I’m not trendy enough for this style.
Mixing and matching different colors/prints: Again maybe I’m just not that trendy.

What I’m thinking of getting myself? A pair of doorknockers. That’s what we used to call them in Brooklyn. They are a pair of earrings in gold and silver that are hollow. You know, I didn’t know they were really called that, I googled door knocker earrings and I found them! Here’s a picture:

I can definitely rock those big ones. Not to work though. I don’t want to scare anyone. That just reminds me of LL Cool J’s song from back in the day about these earrings. “You’re jingling baby, go ahead baby”

How Old is Too Old?

I swear,  sometimes I realize that I have a kid and a mortgage and a husband and I wonder where the time has gone. Sometimes it feels like just yesterday I graduated from HS and I’m nearing my ten year HS reunion soon! I feel like I’m at that phase in life similar to a teenager’s. Where they are not a child anymore but not an adult either? I consider myself “grown” and I mostly act like an adult J  but I don’t feel old. Shoo I’m lying my back hurts and I’m tired. I definitely feel old. But I’m not old. Does that make sense? I think today’s adult is very youthful. We’re trendy and listen to popular music. Look at the Detroit mayor for example. Well he’s not a good example, he’s in jail. If you want more info on him you can Google him. But he show’s his youth by wearing a diamond stud in his ear and he’s said he listens to hip hop.

Anyway…I know what I’m definitely too old for. Some of those hoochie outfits are not for me. Also, Soulja Boy? I’m too old for that. You definitely won’t catch me doing the Soulja Boy dance.

But, what about lip gloss? When is the time to graduate to lipstick? I think that I look “vieja” (old) with lipstick. Funny thing I was wearing lipstick in middle school trying to be grown. Of course that was the nineties when we were doing matte dark makeup. Now I have a nice collection of lip gloss and I don’t own one lipstick. I’ve tried it and haven’t really liked it. I go for mauve-y type or berry type of lipstick. I saw an ad in a magazine (can’t remember which one) that was about a half side of lipstick and half side of gloss. That seemed like something I could try. I can’t remember which brand it was but it was a drugstore brand.

So what do you think? How old is too old for lip gloss?

Watch any good movies lately?

We watched Iron Man yesterday. There is a movie theatre we call “The Dollar Movies” even though they are not a dollar anymore. They play movies that have already been to the “regular” movie theatres and are on its way back to where ever they go when the theatres stop playing them. But not too old that they are out on DVD. I basically categorize my movies into the ones I have to see when they come out, the ones that can wait for the dollar movies or the ones that can wait for DVD or TV.
It was $2 for a matinee (isn’t that a steal!!) and it was a pretty good movie. A little long but hey. I thought Robert Downey Jr. did a great job and I believe he got some really good reviews for the movie.
I also watched The Dark Knight (that was my “have to see when it comes out” movie) and it was a little dark but I liked it. To be honest I really don’t like Christian Bale for the role of Batman. Considering that Batman has gotten a little dark and not as PG-13 as it used to be then I guess he would be a good choice. I prefer George Clooney’s Batman. Heath Ledger was incredible though! His Joker was amazing. Those would be some big shoes to fill if they make another Batman with Joker in it. Have you watched any good movies lately? What’s your all time favorite movie?
