To Work Or Not to Work?

I stumbled on another article which talks about going back to work after having children. I’m sure this is a topic that all Mami’s mull over while on maternity leave. I know that when I was on leave I was ready to come back to work but hated the fact that my Booba had to go to daycare. I thought it would get better as he got older but I hate that someone else plays with him all day. I also hate the fact that I have to cut someone a check for it!

We’re thinking of adding to our family and it’s taking a lot of soul searching and lots of serious conversations with hubby because we would love to add to our family soon (Booba is 17 months old) but don’t know how we would do it because daycare would be outrageous for two kids. I’m starting a home business but I still haven’t received my first paying client. In a perfect world I would be able to work from home while taking care of my two kids. I would probably just get up earlier and get some work done before the kids wake up and work through their naps and again while they go to bed at night. It’s going to be hard work but it’s the sacrifice I am willing to make in order to be able to raise my children myself.

The article mentioned how employers should think of offering child care as a benefit. I’m not sure that sits well with some employers. I know that in my case we are getting taxed at a higher rate and not getting as much back because of the amount of money I make per year. But I don’t see half of it because it goes to daycare. I paid about $5000 in daycare last year and it was only for 6 months. I expect to pay 10,000 for daycare this year. If I stayed home and worked either in my home business or part time and lose my annual income by 10,000 we would still be winning. We would get taxed at a lower rate, get more money back in taxes and still have the same amount of money coming into the house. In the next year we are going to have to make a decision as far as what we are going to do. Of course the mortgage still has to be paid and the car note. So it’s not a decision to be made lightly. Have you ever considered this or are you currently considering staying home?
