Where do you come from?

I always wondered what my family orgin is. Latinos are a melting pot of different races. Depending on what country your family is from you’d know what mix is your mix. On my dad’s side my great-grandfather was full German. I’ve read that in Trujillo’s era (the dictator) he was receiving German refugees that were running from the Nazi’s. It was said he was trying to “lighten up” the Dominican people. He always had a thing about skin color and actually wore makeup to appear lighter.

Anyway I guess he got what he wanted because I’m pretty light considering the Dominican stereotype of mulatto people. My dad is lighter than I am but he tans really dark in the summer. I get red before I tan. On my mom’s side my cousin and I would love to go to Dominican Republic one day and just research our ancestry. I would love to see what comes out of it because we look pretty mixed on that side. I wouldn’t be surprised if I was told we had some Asian ancestry mixed in with others. My family last names are not that common either but I can’t seem to find a website that would give me the origin. What about you, do you know where you come from?
