Save on those Energy Bills!

Fall is definitely here and there are some things I have to do to keep my energy costs down this winter. I wanted to share my ideas with you. I went to my local hardware store and got a window insulation kit for my downstairs windows in and upstairs windows. They are going to need replacement soon and I’m hoping we can hold out until next Spring. I’ve also got some curtains with insulation in them to keep the cold air out. It also keeps the hot air out in the Summer. Finally, I got some weatherstripping for the windows and some window coverings for my porch. I refuse to pay more than I have to on heat this winter!

iVillage shares ways to save on your energy bills  and 10 ways to get your home ready for fall.

I hope you stay warm this winter with low energy bills!

Shopping Peeves!

I’ve been thinking here about what bothers me when I go shopping. We all have our pet peeves and I am going to share mine. You can share yours in the comments section or a track back would be fine as well.

I hate first of all when I don’t get acknowledged. I used to work retail while in college and the store even had a policy about greeting someone within the first 5 seconds (seconds people!) that they walked in the store. When I go into this store now (Nine West) and they don’t acknowledge me I’m right back out the door. I just feel like they either think I’m poor and am not going to buy anything or they don’t care if they sell anything. It’s very irritating
I hate when a store has their clothes arranged by color. I know I sound stupid right now but bear with me. Maybe I want the sweater but why can’t you group all the sweaters together and let me pick a color? Putting all tops of the same color together makes me feel like I need to pick a color. Maybe I don’t want to pick a color! Does anyone’s closet look like that? Maybe, but I’m betting not. I seriously can’t shop like that. I can’t remember the name of the store that I’m thinking of that does this.
I hate when it’s a mess. Now that doesn’t look like my closet either I have to have some kind of order or I don’t know what to wear. Forever 21’s stores are a mess. There’s no rhyme or reason. Granted I just said that the color coding drives me nuts but geez at least put all the same tops together, dresses together. Nope not at Forever 21. I have to shop online. Can you believe that! I can’t go in the store but I love their clothes. Somebody really needs to do something about that. Their racks are shoved together everything is all over the place. If a mannequin has on an outfit I like, I can’t even find the freaking outfit anywhere near her! And their stores are pretty big too. So I usually get frustrated and walk out.

These are my top three shopping pet peeves. I also hate the Christmas season because of the heavy crowds. I tend to avoid the mall during that time of year and try to get my shopping done online. What are your shopping peeves?

I want my own line! How about you?

Ok so I’m in the asking questions type of mood. If you had a fashion line (or accessory line, shoe line, makeup line….insert fave here) what would you do different than the big guys? How would you tailor your line to the Latin community?

I’ve previously written a post about shoes (and my love of them) in this post called “A Girl Can Dream Right?”
If I would have been a famous actress/singer/model or your favorite actress/singer/model’s baby momma I would have loved to have a great shoe line! Carlos Santana has a shoe line and let me tell you….honestly…..it sucks. Sorry Carlos. I try to be nice, but I really got to keep it real. Usually there’s one or two shoes in a line that you’d think to yourself (or to your friend next to you) what the hell where they thinking when they designed that? I mean really you can’t please everyone. But look here for his shoes and tell me what you think.

What one beauty product do you splurge on?

October 25, 2008 by Jai

If you had one beauty product you had to have for the holidays what would it be? Whether it’s something cheap for your stocking or something that is for special occasions (translation…lots of dinero) what can’t you live without?

Of course when the holidays roll around the cameras start flashing and if you’re in my family the video camera starts recording. My dad is like permanently attached to that thing! Of course I have an uncle who would watch and do a play by play of what exactly is wrong with you, your outfit, your date…you get the picture. So of course during this time I get a little more self conscious than usual and I make sure I look my best. My hair is done (colored, cut and styled) and my makeup is fresh. The clothes don’t matter as much because we’re pretty casual with our get togethers so jeans and a nice top/sweater would work for me.

So what do you splurge on? I like to have my favorite lip gloss from MAC on (nymphette…it’s my neutral pink. Love it!) I feel it’s a splurge because it’s about $14 for a tube. But it’s so worth it! It lasts a lot longer and is a lot stronger than the drugstore brands. I’ve tried many (many!!) different lip glosses and nothing even comes close. Maybe the Juicy Tubes from L’Oreal but the color payoff is not as great…even if you go for the HIP (that I’ve noticed is more expensive than the regular Juicy Tubes!).

My “something cheap” would be the Maybelline’s mascara. At less than $5 for those of us who don’t wear mascara daily this is perfect! I’ve also tried different kinds and nothing is as good as the Maybelline!

Can’t wait to read about your splurges and your “not so splurges!”
