I want my own line! How about you?

Ok so I’m in the asking questions type of mood. If you had a fashion line (or accessory line, shoe line, makeup line….insert fave here) what would you do different than the big guys? How would you tailor your line to the Latin community?

I’ve previously written a post about shoes (and my love of them) in this post called “A Girl Can Dream Right?”
If I would have been a famous actress/singer/model or your favorite actress/singer/model’s baby momma I would have loved to have a great shoe line! Carlos Santana has a shoe line and let me tell you….honestly…..it sucks. Sorry Carlos. I try to be nice, but I really got to keep it real. Usually there’s one or two shoes in a line that you’d think to yourself (or to your friend next to you) what the hell where they thinking when they designed that? I mean really you can’t please everyone. But look here for his shoes and tell me what you think.

As a Latina, I often find that clothing lines targeted towards us are sometimes cheap looking and a cliche. I have lived 2/3 of my life in California and am proud of my heritage but you won’t see me with a shirt that has La Virgen on it.

My line would be chic yet comfortable. Affordable but not cheap looking.

Carlos definitely isn’t any Christian Louboutin, i’ll tell you that.

I get collections that are inspired by certain people or cultures, but to make clothes that are geared towards a certain nationality seems kind of weird for me. Fashion is fashion, and anyone that knows how can work it. But I don’t think everyone really believes in that.

I don’t want to make my own clothing line, but I do want to own my own boutique one day. I know plenty of aspiring fashion designers that I would hook up with business-wise. I just want to run my merchandising and selling techniques my own way and not have to worry about what a corporate office wants me to do.

@ Marisol I agree that they tend to market cheap stuff to Latinos. Cheap is not the same as affordable. Especially when it comes to quality.

@Sandra: Lol! I definitely agree with your statement about Carlos! I also do believe that fashion is fashion but the way it’s marketed specifically to one group compared to another is ridiculous. I watch a lot of Spanish TV and a lot of English TV. I saw an ad for a car/minivan for Spanish compared to English (same car different ad) and the difference even offended me a bit the way they marketed it. I hope you do get your boutique someday!

They aren’t too bad looking. Goodness knows I’ve seen worse things inc celebrity shoe designing. They look like runway material. Would be to outthere to wear casually.
