I love music! My musica is one of those things I’m addicted to and can’t get enough of. That’s why I always keep those free downloads on my sidebar for you guys!

I’m not a music critic or anything but I do want to share my favorite songs of 2008. I have a very eclectic music so you’ll find Amy Winehouse and Daddy Yankee on the same list. You may not find that on other lists!

I love this Amazon player because it shows you not only the album covers of the songs but you can actually preview the songs I like and purchase if you like them. Also you can listen and let me know what you like and don’t like. You might find your next favorite artist on my list!

What do you think about my list? What do you agree or disagree with? Also did I leave anyone out? I love music and talking about it!

Febreze Holiday Scents Review

December 28, 2008 by Jai

Just in time for las fiestas (the Holidays) I get a nice package in the mail. Of course hubby is already asking me what I bought this time but actually this time I got a nice package from Febreze. They sent me a holiday limited edition scents for me to try out and review on Mami’s Time Out. I thought I was just going to get one thing but I got:

  1. Febreze Air Effects in “Winter Fresh and Warm Nights”
  2. Febreze Noticeables in “Apple Spice and Holly Berries”
  3. Febreze Candles in “Winter Fresh and Warm Nights”

I am already a Febreze user I love using it in my son’s room. You know how toddler’s rooms can smell after a diaper change! Other air fresheners just spray but don’t eliminate the odor. Nothing’s worse than smelly diapers than smelly diapers mixed with flowers. I like to compare it to when a person doesn’t bathe and just throws cologne on. It doesn’t hide the stench, instead it makes a brand new stench. I’m sure everyone knew that one kid in High School that did this!

Anyway, I got this just in time for my Christmas Eve party. I used the Air Effects around the house and I immediately got hubby’s reaction: He didn’t like it. I didn’t see what was wrong with the smell, he thought it was too strong and smelled like cologne. Oh well, I liked it! Before my dinner guests showed, I plugged in the Noticeables in my living room. I strategically placed it so that you can not only smell it in the living room but also on the way in and up the stairs. I never tried this product before so I wanted to see how it was going to work. It did exactly what it says! You do get used to the regular plug ins that you may have so unless you leave your house and return that’s when you smell your plug in. You really noticed the smell with the noticeables. I had it on the low setting and I could smell it on the stairway and on the way in. You can also notice the change in smell but it’s not overpowering. They blend beautifully. Hubby wasn’t complaining about this one.
The scent of Christmas filled the air along with smell of cooking and baking. It was the perfect backdrop to my holiday party! You can find these at your local CVS or Walgreen’s or Wal-Mart for less than $10. Check it out for yourself you definitely won’t be disappointed!

Minor Construction Ahead….

As you can see I’m adding some buttons to the web site. I am just extremely excited that I actually got some buttons up there without killing my site and having to start all over. A web programmer I am definitely not. Pero, I am learning so I’m very excited about my progress! I am trying to make it more user friendly but if you do try my buttons you will find you either don’t get any posts or get one. I am working on that but in the meantime you can still access everything you need by using the categories. The pages also work the same way as before. Please be patient while I make MTO even more pretty!

I do love the design and don’t want to change it but I am definitely trying to tweak it. If you think of anything as far as design that you’d like to see or something that will make it even more user friendly please feel free to leave a comment or drop me an email at: jai AT mamistimeout DOT com. As always I love to hear from you! Happy Holidays and Stay BELLA!

PS: The home page button and the twitter button definitely work. The biggest pet peeve of mine has been solved with the home page button! :)

7 (more) Random Facts!

I swear I have adult ADD. No offense to those who may know someone who suffers with this disease but seriously I was tagged a while back and I always said I’d get to it every time I turn my laptop on. Then I get into something else that totally consumes my time and I forget about it! Anyway, Melanie over at Modern Mami tagged me to do share 7 things about me. I was just tagged previously here but I’m sure I can come up with 7 more random facts. J

1.       I am completely addicted to my blackberry (earlier this month it fell in a tub full of water and I thought I was going to die. It’s back and almost perfect. I’ll take it!)

2.      Sometimes I’m just too lazy to put makeup on in the mornings.

3.      My son broke my glasses and I’m blind without them so I have electrical tape on them. I only wear them around the house though!

4.      I have absolutely no CSS/HTML knowledge. I really need to add that to my list for 2009.

5.      I start school in January. I am getting my Bachelor’s in Business Administration. Right now I just have my Associates.

6.      By day, I am a Latina in the corporate world. I work in Human Resource for a company with over 3000 employees.

7.      Half my work day I’m talking in Spanish. Over half of the employee’s are Spanish speaking and I’m one of two Latinas working in the Corporate office. (Definitely need more Spanish speaking people!!!)

I tag whoever would like to do this on their blog! Leave a comment here with your site/twitter name! I would love to know more about you!

Hottie of the Week #29

December 26, 2008 by Jai

Marisol had asked for Diego Luna and I thought I’d feature him as today’s hottie of the week. This actor was born December 29, 1979 in Mexico City. His mother died at the age of two and his father was a set designer in Mexico.

You can catch him in the movie Milk which was just released. He was also in the critically acclaimed “Y tu Mamà Tambìen”.  He has just become a first time father with telenovela star Camila Sodi from Univision’s Inocente De Ti. Camila Sodi is also the niece of Thalia. They named their son Jeronimo.Hope everyone had a Feliz Navidad! What do you think of today’s hottie?

Could You Use a Makeover…

I am so excited to bring you a Guest Blogger. Hissip is a fellow Latina blogger who blogs about Hispanic/Latin Gossip. So if you take out the two letters of Gossip and add the first two letters of Hispanic you get Hissip! She is *the* person to get info on what’s going on in the world of Latino stars. My last hottie of the week was a hottie I found on her site! I called all bloggers and she volunteered to write a little something for Mami’s Time Out. Enjoy!

If you’re like me, you probably fawned over “Beauty and the Geek”,
watch the Style Channel, and count yourself among the biggest fans of
“How Do I Look”?The fact that I catch the latter show whenever I can, makes me forget
that at one point there was this makeover book of my aunt’s called
“How Do I Look” that I use to peruse through. I’ve rediscovered it
lately. It has all these stains on it. The dust jacket is nowhere to
be found, but the information is sooooo timely.

It’s written by Gale Hayman, a woman who’s name at the time of the
first reading meant nothing to me. But, it turns out that it’s well
worth reading. Hayman is the founder of Giorgio, you know that
clothing and perfume empire. A throwback, but nowadays very few
makeover books can knock it as well as this book.

Because of Hayman’s background as a stylist to celebrities, she’s the
perfect expert to give advice. One of the remarkable things about her
book is that it has a section on health, and self-esteem, because a
true stylist realizes that you could have the most banging wardrobe,
but if you don’t have a great attitude toward yourself to match,
what’s the point?

Do you have a favorite makeover book that you swear by?

If you loved this post don’t forget to check her out at: www.hissip.com and follow her on twitter @hissip to stay up to the minute! In the words of the hissiper….this was fabulissima!

What Are Your Holiday Traditions?

December 24, 2008 by Jai

Las fiestas are here! So do you have any holiday traditions? My family always celebrates Christmas Eve with a big dinner and party. I know when we used to spend the holidays in Dominican Republic that it was a big holiday and the parties used to spill out on the street!

Being married to a Puerto Rican hubby, his tradition is a bit different. His family celebrates Christmas Day together. They do the dinner then. So what I’m doing this year is hosting my first dinner (by myself!!) at our house on Christmas Eve with some good Spanish food! On my menu are very easy meals because I just don’t have the time to be Martha Stewart (or the Spanish chick on the food network). I’m a watered down version. Anyway I’m thinking:

·         Yellow rice

·         Some kind of beef/pork that I will season and broil

·         Salad

·         Potato Salad

·         Cod fish fritters (bacalaitos)

·         Empanadas (like a Jamaican beef patty but not Jamaican)

Since I’m not a baker (and not ashamed to admit it!) my sister in law is going to make a few sweet things. I’m having over my hubby’s brother and sister and their familia. It’s important to me that we get together especially when their dad isn’t in the picture and their Mami passed on a few years back.

Now that Booba (my son) is old enough to have a good time and understand the things going on around him I want to celebrate “El Dia de Los Reyes” or Three Kings Day. This is a Latin holiday based around the three kings (damn obviously right! Lol!) but this is for the children. The kids get toys on this holiday. I know in my family it was specifically toy and that’s it. I know there was a cut off in age but can’t remember what it was. Maybe 12?

So how do you celebrate the holidays? I know between Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Three Kings Day there are a lot of different celebrations. I love learning about other cultures. And even if you are another Latina I like to hear how you celebrate. FELIZ NAVIDAD!

Holiday looks under $100 with OneStopPlus.com

Onestopplus.com is sharing their holiday looks for under $100! There are accessories shoes and clothing that can all be found under $100. To be honest I didn’t like the clothes they sent me so I wasn’t going to share this.

See what I mean? Just not that flattering. But I did like the tall boots they are advertising especially when the prices range from 29.99-$69.99.

What do you think? They are the first ever web mall for plus sized clothing. Are they about the same as Avenue? Or do you prefer one over the other? I know I just like the boots! Thoughts?
