Daisy Fuentes Hair Care Line in Stores

Did you know Daisy Fuentes was going to launch a hair care line? It is now in stores, I checked it out in my local Rite-Aid today. This line is reasonably priced between 7.99-9.99 and if you were lucky, your local Rite Aid ad is having a  great sale…buy one get one free. It’s sulfate free which is great for us Chicas with colored hair. Sulfate free products help keep your color in your hair longer. The line comes in Curl & Waves Shampoo, Conditioner and Mousse, Smooth & Straight Shampoo and Conditioner, All Day Hairspray, Ultra Deep Conditioner, Straightening Blow Dry Flat Iron Finishing Spray and High Shine Finishing Spray. It smells pretty yummy too. Have you tried this yet? I’m thinking of trying it out. Especially since it’s sulfate free and my new red hair color is hard to maintain vibrant. I will definitely post a review as soon as I try it out!

Eat Your Way to a Stress Free Summer

beauty_dietIt’s easy to feel stressed these days, and healthy comfort foods can not only help lower stress, but can boost energy levels and keep you looking your best. According to Lisa Drayer, M.A., R.D., and author of The Beauty Diet, whole grain carbohydrates like oatmeal help your body produce serotonin, a mood enhancer responsible for calm, relaxed feelings. Fiber in oatmeal provides a feeling of fullness and will help keep you looking slim and feeling fantastic. Delicious sweet potatoes are another starchy food that boost serotonin levels and keep you feeling calm. Beauty nutrient beta-carotene, found in sweet potatoes acts as an edible sunscreen, protecting skin from UV rays. Omega-3 fatty acids found in wild salmon and walnuts can help calm the mind and boast beauty benefits, keeping skin smooth, soft, and supple. Relax with green tea to get a dose of theanine, an amino acid that promotes stress-free feelings, and adding honey can boost tea’s soothing effects. Green tea is also packed with antioxidant, EGCG, which fights sun damage and increases metabolism for healthy weight control.

My Mother’s Day Wish list

I wanted to share my wish list for el dia de las Madres or Mother’s Day for you folks that don’t speak Spanish. I think I want something domestic-y (is that a word!) and you already know I’ve been eyeing those cute diva aprons and I would also love some gardening accessories. Whether it’s tools, bulbs, a tree or accessories for my garden I’m all game. I did mention that to hubby maybe I should send him the link to this post? lol! Do you think that would be a good hint of what I would like? I’m hoping that it’s a nice day outside so we can have brunch. A handmade card from my Booba would definitely make my day as well. For you Mamis out there…what would you like for Mother’s Day? Do you have any Mother’s Day traditions?

I’m so done with SouthPole!

Southpole really needs to get it together. I used to like their jeans because they were cheap and didn’t give you that gap in the back. You can get them on sale sometimes in the urban stores and also department stores like JC Penney and Sears. I have quite a few pairs but none of them fit correctly. It’s driving me absolutely insane. I can go up to two sizes up or down depending on the cut and style of the jean. That doesn’t sound right to me. It never fits me at the waist so I’m constantly pulling them up yet they fit me fine on the hips and thighs. Annoying to say the least! (Maybe I should wear a belt!) I bought two new pairs one a mid rise jean in Salsa and they are so long it’s ridiculous. I’m wearing four inch heels with them and you can’t see my shoes. I am hoping they shrink in the wash. These are big pretty much everywhere but my waist. I never win!

Southpole, you get a thumbs down until you make a better quality product! Next! I’m going to try some PZI jeans or Baby Phat instead.

Mami Recommends: Clinique for Acne

April 26, 2009 by Jai

After my breakout (I’m seriously not going to review skin care products for a good while) I turned to Clinique to help me with my breakouts. I was going to buy their three step system for Oily Skin but I saw this in my local Clinique counter which is a three step Acne Solutions kit for $47. Click on the picture for more info. Well I have been trying it for over a week and have nothing but good things to say about it. I love the three step skin system. I’ve tried Proactive in the past with no real change. I definitely recommend Clinique for those of you who haven’t had any success with Proactive.

Here’s what I thought about the product: The soap is light and foamy. My skin feels clean but I don’t have any redness or blotchiness that comes with some harsh acne soaps. The toner is nice but you have to remember to shake it prior to each use. It amazes me what my cotton ball can pick up with the use of this toner! The moisturizer also helps to treat and reduce your acne.

I love this three step system, my skin has not broken out and my old breakouts have been clearing up. It’s also improving the tone of my skin. I actually have gone out without makeup which is something I haven’t done in a really long time. Check it out for yourself I promise you won’t regret this purchase!

It’s not too late to sponsor me!

I am walking for the March of Dimes’ March for Babies this year in honor of my angel preemie and also of the healthy preemie I have with me. Not all moms are as lucky as I am. My son was 5 weeks early and you can’t tell by looking at him. He’s off the charts on weight and height and rarely sick. I feel truly blessed.

I would like you to help me join this fight to give all babies their 9 months. I am halfway towards my goal this year thanks to your support. If you still haven’t donated, please take some time to do so. I walk in 8 days! I’m so happy to be a part of such a great cause. Every dollar counts, if you can only give $5 or even $1 that would be great! I’m going to leave a button on the sidebar as well so you can donate. Gracias amigas!

Hottie of the Week #40

April 24, 2009 by Jai

jimyToday’s hottie of the week is fellow Brooklynite Jimmy Smits! Born July 9, this divorced Papi of two is a Graduate of Cornell University. He’s been seen in shows like the canceled Cain (I’m so upset they canceled that!) and worked on NYPD Blue after David Caruso left. He previously turned down the role played by David Caruso. He also turned down the chance to play David Caruso’s role in CSI: Miami. That might have been too much Latino hotness on one show. Adam Rodriguez and Jimmy Smits? Wait…is there such a thing as “too much” when it comes to Latino hotties? LOL!

This 6′3″ hottie loves to play characters with morals and conviction. Loves him! And if you didn’t know…his Mom is Puerto Rican and his father is Suriname. Keep doing your thing Jimmy! And stop turning down roles, we need to see you on TV!

Telenovelas on DVD

April 23, 2009 by Jai

I have found some great telenovelas on DVD at Amazon. Besides the Madrastra (which was my favorite Who dunnit novela) and Rubi  (which was also a good one) here are some more recent novelas on sale.

Destilando Amor was a recent Univision telenovela starring hottie Eduardo Yanez. This one was very popular.

Lola Erase una Vez was another really recent (2009) novela starring hottie Aaron Diaz. This one is a bit in between, might be safe enough for the younger telenovela addicts. Also, the title song off this novela was very popular, she even won a Premio Lo Nuestro for it.

Huge hit in the US and Mexico was La Fea Mas Bella. This was Mexican’s version of the popular Columbian telenovela "Betty La Fea" which was also Salma Hayek’s inspriation for Ugly Betty. I absolutely adored this novela and it lasted longer than most. Las Tontas hottie Jaime Camil (Santiago) also plays a major role in this one. If you only get one, get this one.

If you are looking for something a bit old school and love Tommy Mottola’s wife Thalia, then Maria La del Barrio is for you. I don’t know why the DVD says 2008 this goes way back to the early nineties and is part of a trilogy along with Maria Mercedes and Mari Mar which was my absolute favorite.

Another one for the younger set, RBD fans must be ecstatic to find that the novela that started the band, Rebelde is also on DVD. It’s a bit pricey for $30.34. I guess they are capitalizing on their popularity.

At least these will get you buy until Las Tontas and Cuidado Con El Angel are out on DVD. I will let you know as soon as I hear something!
