Eat Your Way to a Stress Free Summer
It’s easy to feel stressed these days, and healthy comfort foods can not only help lower stress, but can boost energy levels and keep you looking your best. According to Lisa Drayer, M.A., R.D., and author of The Beauty Diet, whole grain carbohydrates like oatmeal help your body produce serotonin, a mood enhancer responsible for calm, relaxed feelings. Fiber in oatmeal provides a feeling of fullness and will help keep you looking slim and feeling fantastic. Delicious sweet potatoes are another starchy food that boost serotonin levels and keep you feeling calm. Beauty nutrient beta-carotene, found in sweet potatoes acts as an edible sunscreen, protecting skin from UV rays. Omega-3 fatty acids found in wild salmon and walnuts can help calm the mind and boast beauty benefits, keeping skin smooth, soft, and supple. Relax with green tea to get a dose of theanine, an amino acid that promotes stress-free feelings, and adding honey can boost tea’s soothing effects. Green tea is also packed with antioxidant, EGCG, which fights sun damage and increases metabolism for healthy weight control.

Mami Recommends: Clinique for Acne

Here’s what I thought about the product: The soap is light and foamy. My skin feels clean but I don’t have any redness or blotchiness that comes with some harsh acne soaps. The toner is nice but you have to remember to shake it prior to each use. It amazes me what my cotton ball can pick up with the use of this toner! The moisturizer also helps to treat and reduce your acne.
I love this three step system, my skin has not broken out and my old breakouts have been clearing up. It’s also improving the tone of my skin. I actually have gone out without makeup which is something I haven’t done in a really long time. Check it out for yourself I promise you won’t regret this purchase!

I am walking for the March of Dimes’ March for Babies this year in honor of my angel preemie and also of the healthy preemie I have with me. Not all moms are as lucky as I am. My son was 5 weeks early and you can’t tell by looking at him. He’s off the charts on weight and height and rarely sick. I feel truly blessed.
I would like you to help me join this fight to give all babies their 9 months. I am halfway towards my goal this year thanks to your support. If you still haven’t donated, please take some time to do so. I walk in 8 days! I’m so happy to be a part of such a great cause. Every dollar counts, if you can only give $5 or even $1 that would be great! I’m going to leave a button on the sidebar as well so you can donate. Gracias amigas!
Hottie of the Week #40

Today’s hottie of the week is fellow Brooklynite Jimmy Smits! Born July 9, this divorced Papi of two is a Graduate of Cornell University. He’s been seen in shows like the canceled Cain (I’m so upset they canceled that!) and worked on NYPD Blue after David Caruso left. He previously turned down the role played by David Caruso. He also turned down the chance to play David Caruso’s role in CSI: Miami. That might have been too much Latino hotness on one show. Adam Rodriguez and Jimmy Smits? Wait…is there such a thing as “too much” when it comes to Latino hotties? LOL!
This 6′3″ hottie loves to play characters with morals and conviction. Loves him! And if you didn’t know…his Mom is Puerto Rican and his father is Suriname. Keep doing your thing Jimmy! And stop turning down roles, we need to see you on TV!

Telenovelas on DVD

I have found some great telenovelas on DVD at Amazon. Besides the Madrastra (which was my favorite Who dunnit novela) and Rubi (which was also a good one) here are some more recent novelas on sale.
Destilando Amor was a recent Univision telenovela starring hottie Eduardo Yanez. This one was very popular.
Lola Erase una Vez was another really recent (2009) novela starring hottie Aaron Diaz. This one is a bit in between, might be safe enough for the younger telenovela addicts. Also, the title song off this novela was very popular, she even won a Premio Lo Nuestro for it.
Huge hit in the US and Mexico was La Fea Mas Bella. This was Mexican’s version of the popular Columbian telenovela "Betty La Fea" which was also Salma Hayek’s inspriation for Ugly Betty. I absolutely adored this novela and it lasted longer than most. Las Tontas hottie Jaime Camil (Santiago) also plays a major role in this one. If you only get one, get this one.
If you are looking for something a bit old school and love Tommy Mottola’s wife Thalia, then Maria La del Barrio is for you. I don’t know why the DVD says 2008 this goes way back to the early nineties and is part of a trilogy along with Maria Mercedes
and Mari Mar
which was my absolute favorite.
Another one for the younger set, RBD fans must be ecstatic to find that the novela that started the band, Rebelde is also on DVD. It’s a bit pricey for $30.34. I guess they are capitalizing on their popularity.
At least these will get you buy until Las Tontas and Cuidado Con El Angel are out on DVD. I will let you know as soon as I hear something!
