For today’s Mami Monday post I figured I would ask around again what other bloggers think about getting organized. It is back to school time and it’s my booba’s first day of school (I know can you believe it kindergarten already!) and I wanted to see if any Mamis out there have any tips on organization for back to school. Here’s what they said.
“I wrote this for my Parents.com post-I think you can use one or two for typical children.” –Lisa Quinones-Fontanez Autism Wonderland
“My back to school tip: make sure your child is up to date on all their vaccines, especially the flu shot
” . Rachel White- The Digital Latina
“Leave everything ready the night before, that will save a lot of time and hassle in the morning.” Yadira Ambert Club de las Diosas
Reader Eileen Carter-Campos shared: “ Get them into routines a few weeks prior to school beginning, ask them what are their goals and expectations for the new school year and how will they meet those goals. Hold them accountable. Create a schedule when they come home from school that they follow through with which entails homework, studying, etc. Have them leave everything set up the night prior every single school night -so that they are prepared daily! Hope this helped…”
“Make sure your HIGH SCHOOL student knows what she will be wearing the next day!” Myrah Falco Duque Mamacita La Cuponera
I’ve also did some online searching and I really like the chore list idea. Check these out from Etsy I’m adamant about including your children in your household cleaning routine (my son cries but understand he doesn’t have much of a choice) and for children who don’t know how to read yet there are lots of magnets with just pictures in it but I like this one as my son will be learning to read pretty soon. It’s both words and pictures
I think my tip comes from my experience this morning. As much as you want to stay in bed just get up a bit earlier. You can take your time and it won’t be such a crazy morning experience. My son was able to have a warm breakfast and watch a little TV while I got ready and we were both in time beating traffic. It was actually a great start to the week considering I didn’t want to get up at all this morning and it definitely shows. Also since I am in my last trimester I’ve become a bit slow moving so I can’t do the morning rush even if I wanted to!
How about you? Do you have any tips to include? Feel free to share in the comments!

I try to leave as much done the night before. That way I’m not running around like crazy. I have lunch to pack, though so that gets done in the morning. And, at least you don’t have a full head of hair to handle before school!

You are so right about the head of hair! I’m starting to think there was definitely a reason why I am ending up with two boys.
We do the start the school schedule 2 weeks early when he was younger. Now that he is older we start the weekend before. He is good in the mornings. Also, laying out the clothes the night before really does work to cut time. We don’t do sack lunches anymore but when we did, we made them the night before too. Get the kids involved. Help them help themselves.

Great tip Alba! I agree with getting the kids involved, it makes them independent!
Well, first I’m not a mami! I’m papi, and also an early head start teacher. One thing I tell my parent’s is routine, routine, and a little more routine. Especially for our littlest ones. They learning by doing things over and over til it becomes habit for them. If you want them to hang up their jacket then it is something you must do everyday. Also it should be in the same place. Choose your battles even with the little ones. I had a parent of four with one daughter, and mom would show up exhausted in the mornings, it was a struggle to get her clothed. Daughter never wanted to wear skirts. I explained that she lives in a home full of boys and sees them and emulates them. She let her be and problem solved, til she began seeing her female peers with skirts she suddenly wanted to wear them as well! Choose your battles, cause some are not worth the effort and time wasted.
While my kids aren’t in school yet I can only speak from experience. As a kid, my parents made it a point to prepare everything i needed from clothes, lunch, snacks after school and any other things i would need for the next day. It cut the rush part out the way. I only rushed if I woke up late because I had to walk to school. These are definitely great B2S tips!

The best tip you have here that works wonders for me is getting everything ready the night before. I take 15 mins every night to prepare my son’s as well as my things for the next day. Its literally changed my life.
Thanks for sharing!
I love Myrah’s tip: “Make sure your HIGH SCHOOL student knows what she will be wearing the next day!” . I think I was late to school many, many times because I never knew what to wear. My son isn’t in school yet, but when he is I do like the idea of getting up earlier. I’d rather have a lot of time left over and little sleep, then be rushing in the morning.

I don’t have kids, but I know from my own experience as a kid, mornings were always more efficient when we had our clothes ready the night before. Also, my mom always made sure the lunchboxes were ready the night before.
Thanks for the comment! The lunchbox thing is something I’m working on. I need to start doing that at night i’ve been running around in the am trying to get that done.
Wonderful tips! I especially like the tip to get your kids involved in chores.

That’s a must! Kids should definitely be included even with small things like feeding the family pet or cleaning up their toys, making their bed. It makes our lives as mamis a lot easier!
Make sure your high school student picks out the clothes the night before lol. So funny but true! I was that kind of student and so were mine when I was a teacher.

Lol I still pick my clothes out the night before. I’m not a morning person and just can’t put an outfit together in the am.
I love your Momy Mondays and Blog! Thanks for your tips! I am a new follower!
