The Best Skin Care Routine for Troubled Skin

My skin is more complicated than my favorite telenovela. I deal with combination (well mostly oily) skin, that is also sensitive. Since I’m looking at the other side of 30, anti-aging is also a concern of mine. I’m still dealing with breakouts….adult acne is real. My skin was way clearer in high school! So as you can see, trying to get the right mix of products is important to me. I’m like a scientist trying to find the best formula!

It’s been a while since I’ve shared a beauty related post, and I feel like 1: I might not be the only one dealing with super dramatic skin and 2: someone may benefit from my skin care routine! I change it up depending on my skin concern at the time and also the time of year. My skin gets weird in the winter (dry but not) so I have a different routine for summer. Ok here goes!

I wash my face twice a day with a charcoal face soap. This one is from Lush, called Coalface. Charcoal is known for drawing out impurities from the skin and leaves my skin feeling super clean and matte, without it feeling over drying. This is good for combo/oily skin so if you have a teen at home that might need something that works but is still mild, this is it!

After washing, I use Micellar Water to pick up the rest of the impurities. This is a beauty blogger fave and I picked it up to see what the big deal was. It’s such a big deal it needs its own post! The one I use is from Garnier and it’s mattifying for oily skin. I use the Coalface, wash and then rinse and wash again. Afterwards I use the Micellar water and it STILL picks up leftover dirt and makeup. This is the real deal. You can grab it from Target check out Target’s Weekly Ad here for beauty deals. I also grabbed some cool exfoliating pads cotton rounds there. I’ve never seen them anywhere else and it helps keep my skin clean!

To target my breakouts, I’ve been using Formula 10.0.6 Rescue Me Acne Blemish Treatment. I was at Ulta not that long ago and on a whim purchased it because I didn’t have anything for my blemishes. For $7.99, I thought it would be a good idea to try it, especially since you can return open items at Ulta as long as you keep the receipt. That helps me try out new skin care products because there’s no risk! (Well besides the possibility of getting a breakout because of my sensitive skin!) This definitely has worked to make my blemishes smaller and I love the mild scent. You can use it up to three times a day and doesn’t make the skin around my blemish peel like other skin care can. Formula 10.0.6 is specifically for troublesome skin and they have a wide range of skin care from face wash to toners and masks to help. The price is pretty affordable as well!

I let the Blemish Treatment sink in a bit (you always apply skin care lightest to heaviest!) and then I add my moisturizer. I had another trip to Ulta a few months ago on my birthday to grab something and get my birthday gift for being an Ulta rewards member. I’m still kind of on a makeup no buy because I am working on my Project Pan, so instead of purchasing a new lipstick (which you know is my weakness!) I grabbed some skin care. I love trying things out in a trial size and found Mario Bedescu skin care set. I was not a fan of the face wash and the toner, but I did love the moisturizer, it makes my skin super soft. Once my little trial size bottle finishes, I’m definitely purchasing a normal sized bottle! They also have a honey moisturizer, I’m intrigued because honey helps naturally with inflammation which is good for skin like mine that loves to break out.

That same day I also bought the Strawberry Face Scrub from Mario Badescu. I like more of an exfoliating product, but this is a nice scrub that you can use every day and it has real strawberry seeds that help exfoliate your skin. I use it a few times a week. If I don’t exfoliate, I can literally feel the build-up on my skin after a few days! Skin build-up leads to breakouts for me so I’m obsessed with making sure that doesn’t happen!

There you have it, my skin care routine! What do you use as part of your routine? Share in the comments!
