In keeping with the holiday gift guides I do around this time of year, I realized that I’ve never done a blogging related gift guide. Although this is a lifestyle & beauty blog, there are so many things that are used in the backend that the blogger or newbie blogger in your life may want for Christmas.
I’ve been blogging for a few years (8 to be exact) and things change quickly in the blogging world. Certain things, like photography, have become incredibly important when it comes to a professional looking blog. For the past few years I’ve been in the market for a new camera, but I never pull the trigger. I’ve done an incredible amount of research and it seems the blogger favorite is the Canon Rebel. It’s an easy to use camera for a beginner and you can shoot in auto mode until you get more familiar with the camera and all it can do. a DSLR is a blogger’s best friend. Unless you’re me. Then it’s your cell phone.
Cell phones cameras have gotten an incredible upgrade the past few years. I have only upgraded my phone because of camera features. Seriously otherwise everything else is a minor tweak here or there. You can upgrade your basic cell phone features with these types of extras:
Extras for DSLR cameras:
To take pretty pictures, you need pretty props. Gift cards to Michael’s, Home Goods, etc is always appreciated. I love a pretty home just as much as a pretty picture. My latest home purchases after moving into our new home work double duty. I can use them as props as needed but they also have a place in my décor.
I’ve been using a marble background for pictures in the last year. To me they are better than a bright white background, the veins in the marble help hide the shadows that still come up (beginner photographer here!) I spent $10 on this marble tile at Home Depot. I also use my vanity/desk that I added marble contact paper to. I love the way my pictures turn out!
After taking those pictures, you need some applications to help you edit those photos. If PhotoShop is out of your budget, Picmonkey is budget friendly at $4.99 a month. $39.99 would get you a year subscription.
Co-Schedule has been a lifesaver for me lately! Since I work full time, I write and schedule my blog posts during the weekend. I also don’t have time during the week to be active on all social media networks promoting my latest posts. Never mind the fact that older posts still need some love! Co-Schedule’s drag and drop calendar interface is awesome at getting your editorial calendar together. It’s easier for me to see when my blog posts will be posted, what my month looks like at a glance, and any social media sharing that I do for my blog posts along with post from my tribe. And it has a free headline analyzer that helps you get the perfect headline for that blog post you’ve been working so hard on!
Mailchimp is great for newsletter sharing. You can purchase a subscription to your blogger’s favorite newsletter service as well.
Maybe your blogger wants to update their theme in the new year. Branding is also important. Check out creative market to get a gift card for them to purchase anything and everything they want to update the look on their corner of the web.
If the blogger you know is a constant learner like me, get them something that they can use to make 2017 even bigger!
Skyrocket Your Pageviews. I think this has been one of my favorite investments this year for my blog. I’ve seen a huge difference in my Google Analytics and I’ve honestly only had time to implement one tool continuously. It’s become a habit. I need to make the other 30+ tips happen too! This is a must have and worth every penny.
Canon Rebel for Dummies Book. I like the “..for Dummies” line of books everything is simple and easy to learn from. This would be perfect to go along with the Rebel Camera or accessories you could purchase.
Are you a blogger? What else would you add to this gift guide?
