What Are Your Fall Must-Haves?
I have seriously become a shopping addict. I thought I was bad before but goodness! I can’t fit my clothes in my drawers I may have to buy plastic tubs to put my clothes in!
So what do you absolutely have to have this fall as far as clothing and beauty items? Thankfully I’m not too much into eye shadow; that is usually the makeup item that has trends by season. I am good with the beauty items, I just use the basics: foundation, blush, mascara, lipgloss.
As far as shopping I MUST have a white ruffle button down. Preferably short sleeve and which I can pair with a cute vest. I’d finish this outfit with jeans and shoes/booties. I’ve gotten into layering and I really like that look. I saw the ruffle shirt/vest combo on my favorite novela (Un Gancho Al Corazon). I think I am still watching this soap because I love the outfits that Constanza wears. Oh well…
Anything else I MUST have? I do need a new pair of brown boots. I gave away my old pair after I sprained my ankle because I knew even though they were too big I’d wear them again. New jeans may be in my future especially with Dots having them for just $12.
I’m trying to behave with accessories but I can’t guarantee. I’ve been buying so many that I had to start using a small drawer storage system instead of the jewelry box I have. Bracelets and earrings are my addiction right now Plus any one (or two) of those basic shoes would be great!!
What are your fall must haves?
Fall Trend: Ruffles
Ruffles are in this season and some of us may flinch thinking it may be too girly but paired with the right jeans and shoes this look actually is cute. I do own the teal one from Forever21. Take a look and pick your faves. They are all under $50 as well as the accessories I’ve picked. So what do you think of ruffles? Any of these shirts your fave?
On my Shopping List: Marc Ecko Genie Sneaker
Ok we all know my obsession with sneakers. These sneakers by Marc Ecko are just another reason why I am obsessed. They are similar to the Ed Hardy sneakers except these are good for you ladies who want to be a bit trendy but not too daring. Instead of the huge multicolored skulls and flower tats of the Ed Hardy signature sneaker, these are a bit more low key but still pack enough of a bang. I can actually see myself wearing these to work. Their black and white converse look really works and the studs are in season! You can wear these with shorts or jeans and a nice top! What are your thoughts on these sneakers? You can find them at Zappos for $56. ![]()
Tank Tops: Making them appropriate for work
My favorite part of summer is wearing tank tops and flip flops. Flip flops are definitely not ok for most work places but you can still work out a tank top.
I love the tanks that Forever21 have. They come in a million different colors, they are cute and a bit on the longer side. I love the longer tunic type of shirts. I honestly don’t wear anything at the waist. The longer shirts are perfect for hiding barriguitas (bellies)
So how can you pull off a tank top? The key is layering! Especially on a hot day you know they are (hopefully!) running the AC so you’d freeze in just a tank top anyway.
So you can layer it with some cool sleeveless and short sleeved cardigans! And after you leave the office you can just take it off! Here are my picks (from Forever 21 of course!) And you can dress it up with a skirt or if you work in a more casual office you pair some jeans with it. Forever21 has a huge selection of tanks, most under $10!
I do want to add a disclaimer: Forever21 shirts run pretty close to size but if you are a bit curvy pants are a no- no. I know they are working on that with their new Faith21 line. But if you want to try a pair of pants, go to the store. I just love to shop online for the shirts because the store is a bit unorganized and intimidating which I’ve mentioned before.
Layering is a great way to get more out of your clothes and save money while looking fly. Do you have any tips to share on layering or making summer clothes work for the workplace? Do share in the comments!
Tips on Dressing for Your Curves
One Stop Plus is a great online shopping center for the curvy women. I had the opportunity to ask a few questions for tips on how to look our best this season. Enjoy!
What are good choices for curvy women?
The best choices in fashion are those that play up what you love about your body. Somehow, what you don’t like automatically gets less attention. For example, you love your breasts but think your hips were switched at birth…then wear a great scooped neck top in a brighter color and darker bottoms…no one will be looking down!
What is a good dress/top for a small chested woman if you are bottom heavy?
This season has fabulous off the shoulder and one-shoulder tops. The more bare skin you show, the more attention smaller chests will get. Also, go for the gold…literally…with one of the new metallic tops. It reflects and adds a great shine to chest, neck and face. Wear darker colors on the bottom to balance the body.
How about a full chested woman?
The key to looking great is a fabulous and supportive bra. Women look cup sizes smaller when the ‘girls’ look younger (i.e. higher). The bras are so great now that even strapless can be worn by almost any size. Also, try the racer bras or straps that cross in the back for added support and no ‘shoulder digs’. Once you’ve got the support, try a higher scoop neck top. If your bottom is rockin’ wear darker on top, brighter on bottom, like one of the great colored denims. Dressing in all one color always gives a longer, leaner and body-balancing look.
What style of skirt is also good for hourglass figures?
The hourglass body is the number 1 wish-list shape for women, so if you’re lucky enough to have it, play it up with a pencil skirt and belt. This season, one of the newest skirt shapes is the ‘tulip’ and it is especially flattering on curvy girls.
What kind of styles should they stay away from?
There are no ‘rules’ as to staying away from any styles, but adapting styles to your body is key. You covet a one-shoulder but your arms are no Michelle Obama’s, so wrap a shawl. Or, wear one of the new cut-outs that will bare your shoulders but not flaunt your arms. You don’t love yourself in jeans…try one of the looser ‘boyfriend’ jeans, cuffed up with great shoes, and you’ll be both in trend and comfortable.
My Faves: Spring & Summer Sneakers
Baby Phat

These sneakers are cute! Love the high top look but yet it’s still so girly. Check out the rest of Baby Phat’s athletic footwear.

Rev Run’s daughters had such a cute idea with their sneaker line. I love the names they give their sneakers. They have also got into purses, clothes and jewelry too. The site is cute and perky but really hard to navigate. It took me a while to find the sneakers. I actually found these cute ones on the zappos web site.

On to the sneaker that inspired the post, after that Fashion Grail post, I am looking at Converses in a whole new light! These are for the simple girl who doesn’t need a lot of bling. For the price, you can also start collecting one in every color! These are actually really fun!

A friend of mine got this pair. How cute are they! And they are slip on. I kind of like these:

They have a summer feel with the mermaid and water tattooed on them. I love the tattoo effect.
And for those of us who may be Mamis-to-be, the slips ons are a great idea to stay cute and comfy this summer. Because you know that flip-flops are no-no’s for Mamis-to-be!
What do you think of these? Did you like any of the ones featured? Will you be getting a new pair for the summer?
I’m so done with SouthPole!
Southpole, you get a thumbs down until you make a better quality product! Next! I’m going to try some PZI jeans or Baby Phat instead.
Spring Trend: Trench Coat
A friend of mine wanted a white trench so here’s one from Target (online only) for $24.99. I can’t wear white it wouldn’t be clean after five minutes of wearing it. Especially not with a toddler running around! But she is braver than me, I’ll give her that. If any of you ladies consider yourself as brave as her (and not as clumsy as me) it’s a great off white trench at an amazing price!
This Nine West one is my fave I just wished it came in another color. The cut is absolutely perfect for ladies with curves. The A-line at the bottom flares perfectly for those of us with some booty, hips and thighs. Black is just too blah for me though. Spring is in the air and with Spring comes lots and lots of color! I would like something a bit more Spring-y. But on sale for $58.50 you really can’t beat the price.
This Harajuku Lover’s version of a trench looks like a shirt, it’s a pretty light jacket. This is good for those of us who are not as curvy and would look great with a pair of jeans. Also this jacket would be good for the chicas down south that may not need as much of a cover up as the chicas up north. You can get it for $98.00
My absolute fave is this Target.com exclusive. It’s a cute purple and for $54.99 it’s a good price.

What I love about this besides the awesome shade of purple is outstanding and empire waist belt. It’s just another great solution for ladies with barrigitas (bellies). I’m not going to lie, I’m in a constant battle with my belly and I think I’m just going to let it win! I definitely might check this jacket out since I have wanted something in this color for a while and it’s just the perfect shade of purple for me! For those of us with olive skin and dark hair it will really look absolutely fab on you! Stay bella and happy shopping!
