Disclaimer: I received this product for review, however all opinions are my own.

I’m in a love/hate relationship with false lashes. I have quite the collection but barely use them because they can be so uncomfortable. I don’t know how these girls do it but I can’t keep lashes on for more than a few hours. But without a perfect pair of lashes I don’t feel like a good makeup look is complete.

Esquido Lashes

I got the chance to review these Esquido mink lashes. BFF was recommended to me but I still went to the Esquido website to check out what they had to choose from. I loved that not only do they tell you the level of volume but they also show the lashes by themselves and on a model. Sometimes you see lashes the way they are displayed but you really can’t tell how they are going to look on. After checking everything out I agreed that BFF was the way to go. The volume was a 3 out of 5 and they showed several models wearing them. I loved that they were just a bit more drama then every day, perfect for the holidays or date night.

I put them on and they were so easy to apply! Same as regular falsies, but they are so light on that you barely feel them. Super comfortable. They are on sale right now for $38, but for 25 wears, they end up being a pretty good price per wear. I did the math, it’s 1.52…cheaper than what regular falsies go for at the store.

A photo posted by jaimami (@jaimami) on

I loved how they looked. Glam but not over the top. Still a bit natural. I’ve tried lash extensions, lots of different mascara and falsie brands. If you want to try falsies for the holidays or any time of year this is the perfect pair. And would fit in any beauty junkie’s stocking!

Also, Esquido has an interactive lash guide if you are not sure which one to get. Just answer a few questions and they recommend their favorite lashes. From very natural to overly dramatic, they have a lash for you! I tried it just for fun and one of the three recommended was BFF! If you haven’t tried mink lashes yet you are definitely missing out.

5 steps to radiant skin

We all want to be picture ready for the holidays right? And of course for all those selfies and group photos we want our faces to look its best! Until they make an Instagram filter that gives you that holiday glow, we are going to have to try our best to make it on our own.

Cleansing your skin is the best way to get started on that radiance look. Aveeno Positively Radiant Skin Brightening Daily Scrubbrightens your face and gets rid of any flaky skin in the process. can be used daily to continue that glowing look through the holidays!

I haven’t used a toner in forever. I recently got this toner from Korres to review and for those of us with oily, acne prone skin…it is the best! Also for those of you who may have larger pores it totally helps to get in there and get the dirt out. I’ve seen a noticeable difference while using it. Korres Cleanser Toner, Pomegranate is $20 with Prime on Amazon.

Last year, I worked at Bare Minerals for a while and fell in love with the serum. I ran out of serum and couldn’t afford to buy as it was $50 even though it works so well. I put it on at night before my moisturizer. I’m back at the store for the holidays and no lie guys….in less than a week after using this serum again, my face is back! I had a weird patch on my skin under my glasses that looked almost like a rash. I’ve been using the serum again and in less than a week the rash is practically gone. No kidding. This is serious. I was amazed before with this product, but I’m absolutely floored with it now. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve used it before but it’s definitely responding to the serum rather quickly. Plus I noticed Amazon sells the Bare Escentuals Active Cell Renewal Night Serum for $39 but not eligible for Prime. This is only once ounce though and I have to see how big it is in the store because it would be worth the money to just get the $50 bottle. It lasts about 6 months so you get a good return on investment. I’m falling in love with my face all over again I need to just stop playing around and stick to what works!

I also use Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Purely Nourishing Moisturizer: Combination Skin after the serum. This is my nightly routine, I don’t apply the serum in the morning but other than that I use the same products morning and night.

Twice a week I do a mask. My favorite mask right now is a bit expensive but the older I get I realize I need to start splurging on my face. It’s still cheaper and less invasive than botox or anything else! The GLAMGLOW Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment is around $50 as well but it works and will last you a while too considering it’s only a once or twice a week treatment. My two year old calls me a monster and asks me if my face is ok when he sees me wearing the mask but it really works!

radiant skin

There you have it! Five steps for radiant skin whether it’s through the holidays or year round. These are all products I personally use and reuse! Let me know what you think if you ever try one or all of these!

I literally haven’t written one word in almost a month! Between the holidays and working a second job I can barely get to a laptop to put my thoughts down. I’ve written at least ten blog posts in my head though. Does it count? You keeping up this holiday season? I’m sure as hell trying!

40 weeks

I was able to check out the movie 40 weeks. 40 Weeks is a feature length documentary on pregnancy where they follow real couples for 40 weeks documenting their pregnancies. This film premiers the first week in December in some markets and you may have the opportunity to attend a screening in your city if interested!

There are so many gems here. First these people are so relatable. They open up to the camera in a way that most people wouldn’t be able to do. Also, everyone has very different pregnancies including hyperemesis gravida, placenta previa and cancer. But they all have so many things in common including being strong well articulate men and women. Even though they are all from different walks of life. And so many truths were said!

  • “I don’t feel like myself. The one constant thing” and I was like ain’t that the truth!
  • “You don’t want to read a lot because it freaks you out. You don’t want to not read and be uninformed.” PREACH mama!
  • “Things you can’t control are going to happen all the time but you can control how you react to them.” I need this one printed and framed. If someone would have told me this while pregnant I would have cried happy tears. That ugly cry too. Because it’s just so true.

This is something I suggest all pregnant women from all walks of life sit and watch with their significant other. But warning….it may make you cry that ugly cry and it’s because you will relate. To at least something. And sometimes when you’re pregnant you feel like you’re an island and no one gets what you’re going through. Then every pregnancy is different so even if you’re not pregnant for the first time you still don’t truly know what to expect. This will hit home and I bet you will watch and rewatch these women at each stage that you go through, from first to third trimester.

I definitely don’t want to give too much away because I want you to watch. To check out more information about the movie, head on over to their website at 40 Weeks the Movie. I think I would have titled this something long to capture it all like “The Good the Bad the Ugly…Being Pregnant” This would be good for someone not sure what they are getting into. Not that it matters because when you are pregnant there’s no take backs!

I love a splurge once in a while but mostly I love trying out new colors at the drugstore. Over the years I’ve learned which brands to skip and which brands to buy. Here goes!

Best Drugstore Makeup

Brand: Loreal

Buy: Everything! Especially if you don’t have sensitive skin. If you do then I would skip the foundation. I love their foundation selection for every skin tone though but they break me out. Their mascara isn’t my favorite but I use the concealer which is another fave.

Brand: Wet n Wild

Buy: The nail polish and lipstick. The lipstick has been my new favorite. I love all of the shades, and their matte shades around $2 are great! Their eye shadows are pretty good too. If you have oily lids though stay away from the eyeliner. They have some pretty colors, but they like to run.

Brand: Rimmel

Buy: The nail polish, the mascara, the blush. Not too much of a fan of their lipsticks, as they can be really frosty which is very 90’s of them but if you like it then check them out. Also, not a fan of the smell of the lipsticks and they taste kind of gross. In case you tend to lick your lips it’s definitely something to consider. Kate’s line of red lipsticks are fun though. Not frosty. Rimmel also carries a matte primer for oily skin that is really amazing.

Brand: Milani

Buy: Their lipsticks are everything! They smell delicious and feel super creamy on. Also very pigmented. I also love their matte bronzer. Skip their eyeliner. So beautiful in pictures, not so much when you purchase and try it on. Their foundations are limited so I don’t recommend that as well. Their new gel eye shadows look amazing, and I’ve seen others work it very well but I haven’t had the same luck.

Brand: NYX

Buy: My all time favorite drug store brand, I love everything from their eye primer, eye shadow, lipsticks and glosses. Their eye shadow is comparable to MAC. If I could figure out how to depot them to put in one of those cases I would buy more. I’ve stopped purchasing the shadow because there wasn’t a way for me to store them while still using them effectively. If I can’t see it I forget I have it. Any suggestions feel free to share! Ulta also has sales all the time, BOGO 50% and you can take advantage to try everything. Foundation though? They also don’t carry enough of a selection.

Brand: ELF Cosmetics

Buy: Everything, especially for the price! The makeup brushes are the best and at $1-$3 each for the studio brand of brushes, they are worth way more than that. The brushes last forever and they don’t fall apart. Their mineral foundation works for a range of skin tones and you can customize it! I tend to buy mostly brushes but their lipsticks work well as well as the blushes.

Which is your favorite drugstore brand?

It’s that season again where we go shopping for those limited edition and holiday palettes from our favorite brands. Right now I’m going to focus on lipsticks that can be easy as a stocking stuff or part of a bigger gift for you or the beauty lover in your life! Besides my favorite fall colors (that could totally be a stocking stuffer as well) here are some ideas for you!

Lipstick Queen has a Red Carpet line just for holiday. It even comes in a suede box with three lipsticks in three different shades of red. Totally holiday ready. And perfect stocking stuffer!

lipstick queen red carpet

Saint red comes in a gold lipstick case and is a sheer red.

Red Sinner is a creamier red and more of a true Hollywood red that would work with most, if not all skin tones. It’s a true red with neutral base.

Metallic Red is a nice coppery red.

Metallic Red

These were hard to swatch as they are very similar but here they are on my wrist:

I love that they are sheer, sometimes red can be overpowering for some but if you want tips on how to get the best red for you check out this post!

Another lipstick idea for those that may like more sheer, nude type of lipsticks is the Paul and Joe brand. Their line of beauty products, called Paul & Joe Beaute includes customizable lipsticks. You can customize the case and snap the lipstick right inside. Which makes it fab and green. It also feels recyclable and/or made with recyclable materials.

Paul and Joe Lipstick

I just need to grab some with more pigment. With 25 shades of pigment, you can be bold or bare! With 25 lipstick shades and 24 different cases to choose from the possibilities are endless!Paul & Joe Swatches

Makeup social is a newer app that has gained in popularity. It is a social app for makeup fiends. You can share your favorite makeup looks and similar to Instagram also you can follow people, ask beauty related questions review products, tag your looks with makeup brands… Basically the best thing that has ever happened to makeup junkies.

You will find people of all colors and types from all areas of the world! Great for novices and advanced makeup queens alike!

Another free app you can check it out here.

Of course with this one you also need to create and account (boooo) I did use Facebook to log in but it seems to log you out after a certain amount of time. Or always. After playing with this app for a few weeks I totally have some gripes and they do need to fix these quirks. As much as makeup junkies want to connect, why do I have to sign in every single time I open the app? And now with the iOS 8 update it has a bug where I can’t comment on other people’s posts. Super annoying! I have an iPhone 5S in case you’re wondering. Maybe you have a different phone and it won’t happen to you.

Another great plus is that you fill out things about yourself (complexion, skin tone, eye color hair color) and it tells you how similar you are to the person posting. Which means you could see what similar people wear for makeup ideas. I love that unique perk! I’m not on as much as I do but I go on every week to see what’s happening and comment with like minded girls.

The app definitely needs a bit of tweaking when it comes to the feed and things like that but it had promise. It’s one of those things I think has some great potential, but people can get easily frustrated with the feeds and updates. Hopefully they are working on a new release! You can also go on your computer and check out the feeds and things that way. Seems to be working better. And where else can makeup junkies go to discuss all things beauty and show their artistry?

Are you on Makeup Social? Add me I’m @Jaimami!

Jane the Virgin

While everyone is talking about Kim Kardashian "breaking the internet" I’ve been busy watching this new show Jane the Virgin. My goodness this show is hilarious. My TV at home is permanently on Disney or WWE. Watching the most girliest of shows is how I get my workouts done and I look forward to watching. I know I should totally be writing posts about Black Friday deals or the best holiday beauty buys (and that’s coming soon I promise).

I’ve heard so many good things about this show and needed some comedy to lighten up all the drama with La Viuda Negra. This is the best show! And with hottie Jamie Camil in it how can it go wrong? Here are more ways I love this show:

  • I love that abuela talks only in Spanish. See, I had to call her abuela, not grandma, because that’s her name.
  • Similar to my favorite show Gossip Girl, there’s a narrator. Who’s also hilarious and sounds like Antonio Banderas. I seriously had to check the credits to make sure it wasn’t him.
  • The names on the show are soooo Latinalicious! I had to borrow that saying from Mig at Latina on a Mission. Although her name is Jane, her mom’s name is Xiomara. You don’t see that on TV often so I have to celebrate! Jane’s baby daddy’s name is Rafael Solano. And Jaime Camil’s character’s name is Rogelio de la Vega. I won’t tell you what Jaime’s character is/does in case you haven’t watched yet and I don’t want to ruin it for you*.
  • As a fellow type A personality I can totally relate to Jane. But it shows how you plan everything to a T and then something unexpected happens. "You can plan a pretty picnic but you can’t predict the weather". Yes I just quoted Andre 3000. Don’t judge.
  • The one liners though?! OMG. "The best way to reach me is through Twitter" Jamie Camil "Mom I had a dream last night." "What like a Martin Luther King kind of thing?" DEAD.

My one question that I think everyone has is….is Gina Rodriguez (who plays Jane) related to Michelle Rodriguez? Because my goodness the similarities are striking! While watching episode after episode I’m thinking this chick is so familiar to me and then there it is! I know you see it too! After doing some googling, Michelle is half Puerto Rican half Dominican from Texas and Gina is Puerto Rican from Chicago. There goes that. I could have sworn they were sisters.

Watch, or forever be in regret for not watching. I may just be recapping these since I’ve caught up and it’s only once a week show. I loved recapping my telenovelas, but since that was a five day a week thing I just couldn’t keep up!

*Because you must watch. I’m totally not getting paid to say that BTW. Because you can watch free on CW.

It’s been a bittersweet time since my baby turned two. On one hand, it’s nice to know my family is complete and all we have to do is learn and grow together, but on the other hand it’s sad to know that my two year old is the last baby we’ll have. Don’t get me wrong, I hate being pregnant. Half way through it I’m already over it. Maybe that’s why I have preemies who knows. I love the smell of little babies but I also don’t love the late nights. And as being the baby of the house myself growing up, I’m starting to understand how my mom felt when I reached my milestones.

Now maternity leave wasn’t bad. I mean, I only had one job….make sure the baby was happy. Having a baby is so much easier than a toddler or a school-ager. Both talk back. Babies are happy when they are fed and with a dry diaper. Occasionally held and coddled. Done. Simple and easy right?

Now with a two year old toddler who’s half boy half hurricane and an 7 year old that likes to co-sign his antics, it can be pretty crazy around these parts! Then there are milestones that he decides to move on from himself instead of me trying to figure when is the right time. Tonight, he decided he wanted to have dinner like a big boy on the chair in the dining room with a metal fork. Instead of in his booster seat with a plastic fork. So I guess those high chair days are over.

Bittersweet

One less baby item in the house.

I feel privileged to watch these little monsters grow up in front of my very eyes but it’s also bittersweet to sit and watch it go by.

Part three of this series!

Here’s another free Fashion App for you!  Kwoller is another Tinder style app that gets better based on your recommendations. You either swipe right if you like and left if you don’t. (Anyone singing Beyonce’s To The Left? Just me? Ok.) It will also let you know if the item you like is on sale. It’s similar to Stylect except it shows you all articles of clothing and not just shoes. It also has different price points.

The bummer with this app is that you have to sign in and create an account. I used my twitter account to sign in because I don’t want Facebook to have all the sign ins to every single app that I use. But I really hate to create new accounts so I do use it once in a while. Passwords just kill me! I can not!

Screenshot 2014-09-27 16.47.38

But who doesn’t like the cute koala they are using as their logo? I’m a sucker for things like that. I love that the tag line is “Window shop from your phone”. I’m still debating on setting up an actual account Why do we need an account for everything?! Especially if all I want to do is window shop?

For more check out their app here.
