Ok so let’s get to it! For the first of my makeup tips, let’s answer the question of how do you pick the right foundation. You know I’m a bargain hunter but as a makeup lover I do have my splurges. I love brands like Prescreptives and MAC for matching our beautiful skin tones but you can sometimes look a bit done with MAC. I’ve tried a few different foundations under the brand, but since I work in a laid back office I only use MAC for special occasions like date night with the hubby or night out with the girls. Of course as a beauty blogger and makeup lover I have a million different foundations and BB creams. So here are some tips.
First evaluate your skin. Is it oily, dry, combination, normal? Do you have larger pores or skin imperfections that you need to cover? This is essential in choosing the right foundation for you.
There are so many choices from compact powder, loose powder and liquid foundations. There are also compact creams, BB creams and tinted moisturizer. It’s enough to drive anyone screaming from the beauty aisle!
If you hate the idea of looking too “done up” a tinted moisturizer or bb cream may be for you. I prefer the BB cream because it’s a bit more coverage than tinted moisturizer and also love double duty beauty products and BB cream has some great benefits. My choices for tinted moisturizer is Aveeno Positively Ageless Correcting Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 30. The lightest coverage but also double duty as a correcting lotion and having SPF 30. You should never go out barefaced!
The next level of coverage would be a BB cream. My recommendations are Rimmel London BB Cream – Medium/Dark or Two Faced Beauty Balm. I spent all last summer with this on and was glowing! And it wasn’t just the pregnancy! 😉 I’m also going to be reviewing Iman’s new BB cream in the next few days so stay tuned for that!
For a bit more coverage (I don’t like to look cakey so I stay away from powder especially for my oily skin) is L’Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation. L’Oreal’s new Lumi Foundation is great and also improves your complexion the more you wear it!* L’Oreal also has a great online tool to help you select the right makeup for your skin tone and complexion.
Aside from the Two Faced Beauty Balm at around $30, all these foundations and creams can be found in your nearest favorite drug store for less than $10! I always recommend to go drugstore when first start experimenting with different colors. And stores like CVS will take makeup back if it’s not the right color, even if it’s already open!
