Saturday Steal: Blush
I wear blush from time to time. Not enough to have a bag full or spend the big bucks on it. But I did try and use Nars Orgasm since it is known to be the best thing for most if not all skin tones. But if you don’t think blush is a big deal you may think twice before spending the $26 on it. Although mine has lasted me forever. But anyway I found a great steal at Sephora in place of this blush. It may be a better fit for the lighter chicas out there since it’s not as deep as the Orgasm. But you can wear this during the day I don’t advise night use of this blush. It’s Sephora’s Blush in Bronze Sensation #12. At half the price tag, this blush acheives a similar effect for $12!

Bad Beauty Deals from ShopSmart Magazine
Frizzy hair, skinny lips, skimpy lashes, lumpy thighs – for every dilemma, there’s a product that’s claimed to solve it. But many don’t, and lots of us have been suckered into buying stuff that doesn’t work. The March 2010 issue of ShopSmart, from the publishers of Consumer Reports, gives us the lowdown on bad beauty deals:
Lash Growers
Lash growers are regulated by the FDA as drugs. (Latisse is FDA approved, but ShopSmart doesn’t recommend it because of risks.) You’ll still see plenty of other “lash lengtheners” on the market though. Some have been issued warning letters by the FDA because they contain drugs.
ShopSmart says Stick with mascara. Lancôme Définicils, $24, was top-rated in their last test.
Hair Smoothers
Ads for Brazilian Keratin Treatment (BKT), a popular salon technique, claim that it leaves hair smooth and healthy-looking for months. But a main ingredient in BKT is formaldehyde, a probable carcinogen that is not banned by the FDA in hair straighteners.
ShopSmart says Try a straightening iron. They like Revlon Perfect Heat Ceramic RVST2001C, $30.
Lip Plumpers
The results for lip plumpers were unimpressive for increasing lip volume, though some, including products from Clinique and DuWop, temporarily smoothed lip lines a little.
ShopSmart says Try makeup tricks instead. Line your lips with pencil just outside your natural lip line, then dot highlighter just above the upper lip and just below the lower lip. If you want a more permanent pout, see a cosmetic surgeon for temporary injections.
Scar Eliminators
No product can completely eliminate a scar or stretch marks.
ShopSmart says See a dermatologist. Certain laser treatments can reduce redness and smooth skin so scars are less noticeable.
Bust Boosters
There are no ingredients that have been scientifically proven to enhance or firm the bust.
ShopSmart says Use a moisturizer or bust cream if your décolletage needs softening. Or try a push-up bra or bra inserts, aka “chicken cutlets.”
Under-Eye-Circle Erasers
Many products promise to erase under-eye circle, but they’re hard to treat due to enlarged veins and very thin skin under the eyes.
ShopSmart says Some eye creams with caffeine can offer temporary help for puffiness. If the problem is allergy-related, try antihistamines or topical hydrocortisone cream. You can also see your dermatologist for cosmetic surgery.
Double-Chin Slimmer
A $20 infomercial gadget called the Neckline Slimmer promises to eliminate a double chin with resistance exercise, but the device mainly exercises neck-flexor muscles that have nothing to do with a double chin.
ShopSmart says Try losing some weight or see a cosmetic surgeon. A scarf might also do the trick.
Product Review: Covergirl Clean Makeup
This product was received for review from Fleishman-Hillard on behalf of Covergirl. Mami’s Time Out has not been paid for this review. You can always count on an honest review from Mami’s Time Out.
You know how they say that a scent can bring back memories? I don’t know who “they” are but they are pretty smart! Covergirl has revamped their makeup but it has the same fragrance. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it right? But when I opened the product to try it on it took me back to the days when my Mami used to get her makeup done in the bathroom and I used to sit on the toilet and watch her. In her glory days, my Mami used to get dressed up to the nines just to go to work. She always owned her own beauty salon and on Saturdays she would work in heels with her hair and makeup done. To her it was the image she was portraying about her business.
But I digress. See how scent can really take you back! That was like 20 years ago. Covergirl is obviously a great product since it’s been around for so long. As well as being so affordable! I received both a liquid and powder formula. I am more partial to liquid than powder so I tried that. The liquid had great coverage besides that great scent. The foundation didn’t match that well but that could be easily fixed. The only problem is that the range of skin tones vary from store to store and what one store carries another one might not. With my sensitive skin there aren’t that many drug store products that I can use. Thankfully, Covergirl is one of the products I can use. They are really targeting minorities with a rainbow of skin tones and using celebrities such as Dania Ramirez and Queen Latifah to promote the product.
They are also giving back!

A cheap yet stunning way to showcase your makeup brushes
I was reading one of the many magazines I read on a daily basis. This time I was at Chicago’s Midway Airport waiting for my return flight home from a business trip. While scanning one of the piles of magazines I brought, I stumbled upon this cool way to showcase your makeup brushes. My version is better because it’s way cheaper at $2! The difference is that the magazine told you to go to a pet store and buy a small fishbowl and some fish tank rocks. That can cost you over $10. I went to the dollar store and got a cool looking vase and a bag of rocks for two dollars. I also bought a tall can of fish tank rocks that I didn’t use. I like the stone look (and it looks gre
at in my bathroom) but I think it’s taking up too much space. I also bought a vase that might be too small for my collection but was thinking of space saving. So keep that in mind when you go shopping for your vase….space saving vs room for your makeup brush collection to grow. I like that it keeps all your brushes in view so you can grab what you want without searching for it in a makeup bag. At least that’s what I used to do. What do you think about my cheap idea? How do you store your brushes?

Holiday Makeup Tips
Celebrity makeup artist Christopher Drummond, who has worked with celebrities, such as Jennifer Lopez, Brooke Shields, Jane Fonda, Glenn Close and Eve Ensler, offers his advice for looking flawless this holiday season.
According to Christopher, “A big trend both in fashion and in makeup for the holidays is the “moonstruck” look. Nothing says glamour like a gown and smokey eyes. And this season, the dresses are slender and simple with an occasional train and details to dazzle. To compliment your fabulous dress, makeup is flirty and smoky.”
Here are Christopher’s tips for achieving the perfect smokey eye:
1. Start with a beige shadow base all over the entire lid
2. Take a gold shadow, and apply it 3/4 of the way up, not quite all the way up to the brow. Leave some space between where you stop and the brow
3. Apply a blue/grey shadow from the crease (middle) of the eye to the base of the lashes. Be sure to blend it well, back and forth. This helps the product adhere, and stay on longer
4. On the outer corner of the lid, blend in a purple eye shadow to give some extra “sizzle.” Blend well
5. Finally, use a black liner to line the base of the lashes. Follow with mascara.
To compliment the smokey eyes, Christopher suggests lush lips and radiant cheeks. The new Fall/Winter 2009 Color Collection from Christopher Drummond Beauty has products for all the trends for holiday in one collection (plus it’s all-natural, vegan and organic.

Kat Von D Makeup at Sephora

I can’t believe I haven’t written a blog post about Kat Von D’s makeup. If you don’t know who she is you should definitely google her. She made a mark on the show Miami Ink and got her own show on TLC called LA Ink. She has a very cool, rocker type vibe that’s all her own. And better yet, she’s Latina! She’s also got some great makeup at Sephora. I am a sucker for packaging and her packaging is too cute! Here’s some info from the Sephora site:
A limited-edition mix of old-Hollywood glamour and modern-L.A. edge, Kat Von D’s makeup is 100% inspired by her personal style and extreme love for makeup. "It’s so rad to be able to accentuate all the little things that make you a woman, from the curves of your lips down to each eyelash," she says. "Makeup is only one of the many things that make me feel so privileged to be girl." Accordingly, Kat’s artistic attention to detail and personal passion is apparent in every product she’s created. With Kat’s bold collection at your fingertips, you’ll be able to make your mark, too.
This lipstick set is one of my favorite pieces. At only $34 it’s a steal! You can wear it layered or on by itself! Makeup is a great stocking stuffer! Happy Holidays! ![]()

Product Review: Revlon Creme Gloss
I just wanted to share that I purchased this product with my own money and have been in no way compensated for the product or review by Revlon or any of its affiliates. I in no way get compensated for any of my product reviews.
I tend to think from time to time that lip gloss is a bit high school and since I’m hitting my "last twenty" soon (29) I should maybe start thinking of making the move to lip stick. It just seems so frightening and vieja to me though! I thought that Revlon’s new Creme Gloss would be a great alternative for me. Sad to say I hate it!! Here’s why:
1. The packaging is not cute. I hate the clicking to get it to the brush so that I can apply it.
2. This one may be my fault. I hated the color. It didn’t look like me at all.
3. I don’t like the consistency. I do love lip gloss like the next girl, but I like it a bit thicker. This Creme Gloss seemed very thin and just seemed like it would come right off. I hated the way it looked on my lips. Kind of goopy. YUCK!
4. The price was my least favorite. Really $9.99 for this? I can get a better product for less than half the price. Or I rather spend a few bucks more for MAC and get a better product. Definite pass for me! Have you tried Revlon Creme Gloss? What do you think?
