This month’s Beauty Box 5 was full of goodies! Two packs of John Frieda volumizing shampoo and conditioner which I love (I love me some John Frieda) and Big Lashes mascara along with a nail polish set. I love this color polish and it comes with a coordinating color of beads to add a little pop to your nail polish.

What I found interesting was the makeup remover pads that need to be activated with water in order. It’s 100% natural and they work really well!!

As an extra goodie this month I also got a coupon code!

Revlon Relaunches Classic Lipstick Shades

I saw this article on Yahoo a few weeks…ok maybe months…ago about Revlon relaunching some great lipsticks. Six total from different decades which people voted for their return. Don’t you hate when you found the absolute perfect lipstick, your signature shade, and then it gets discontinued?!

This just shows that what was once popular is popular once again. I’d have to try that Snow Peach and that Jungle Peach for the perfect coral I’ve been looking for for months now! I don’t get why it’s so hard to find a nice coral for my skin tone. I do believe Nars made an Orgasm lip gloss but I kind of want a lipstick. That red is gorg the violet is so on trend and it’s from the 40’s! It will be for sale again this spring.

Which is your favorite? To read the whole article check it out here.

January’s Beauty Box 5 Reveal

Disclaimer: I received this monthly subscription for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

beauty box

January’s Beauty Box 5 was celebrating the funny rom com coming into theatres “That Awkward Moment”. To celebrate, aside from the five great samples, I also received a small mirror with the movie logo in the front. Great addition to my purse! But seriously everything from Beauty Box 5 is purse friendly which means I’m going to end p with EVERYTHING in my purse and having to clean things out.

The upside? I’m never going to have to buy sample lotion again! The past few months have included a sample size lotion and this month was no different. The cold weather really makes for dry hands and cracked nails. I just feel like Beauty Box 5 is thinking of me when they are putting their boxes together. That polar vortex was no joke folks.

Speaking of hands, the cuticle nail oil that was included was also a god send. I have been picking at my cuticles and making them just gross. This Nubar Cuticle and Nail Oil has almond oil and jojoba oil to help keep your cuticles nice and moisturized. And it’s small enough for your purse! Bonus! Winking smile

The Spa Sea Lotus Body Wash works well with the Bath and Shower Exfoliating Gloves to help you get rid of dead skin that running the heater and that polar vortex has done to our skin.

Top it off with the Hemp Coconut Lip Balm is organic, gluten and petroleum free and not tested on animals. Our lips can get extremely chapped in the winter so this is the perfect Lip Balm.

Do you see a theme here? Everything in this box is just right to keep your skin glowing all winter long! For only $12 a month, this subscription service is totally worth it!

Creamy Matte Sola Lipstick Review and Swatches

Disclaimer: I have received this products for review purposes. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Sola Look presents cosmetics with a Latina appeal. They are a new cosmetic company aimed at Latinas with three introductory shades of lipstick. The names of the lipsticks are Carolina, Karla and Isabel. They are all a creamy matte and there’s a nude, a bright fuschia and a red. You can increase the intensity of the color by applying more than one layer. My absolute favorite was the fuschia, Carolina. Here are the lipsticks.

Sola lipsticks

And here is what they look like on. Clockwise from the left it’s Isabel, Karla and Carolina with swatches in the order of Carolina, Isabel and Karla. I’ve never seen such a creamy matte. Usually mattes are very drying to the lips and especially this time of year I tend to stay away from mattes, even though they are on trend. Sola’s lipsticks are perfectly matte with a creamy texture. I absolutely loved them. I also loved how long wearing they are and how it looks like I have a stain on when my favorite lipstick, Carolina, has faded a bit.

I’ve worn Carolina a few times since the review…

Once for New Year’s Eve (it matches my phone case!)

new years

And this is the stained look it leaves behind during a fun shopping day with my boys

This is one of my favorites right now! If you want to grab your own, check out the Sola website. You can find them for $12 each with a $2 flat rate shipping.

Which of the three were your fave? Have you ever tried a creamy matte?

Hunger Games Gorg Makeup

I went to watch the latest Hunger Games last weekend and I absolutely loved Katniss. Who doesn’t love her right? And of course as a fashion and beauty blogger I always find something in movies whether it’s makeup or fashion inspiration. This time was no different.

Before I get in on the fashion I love this story. I’ve read the series and actually read one of the books in one weekend! Since I knew what the plot was about I concentrated more on the fashion and the eccentric looks. Here are some of what I could find online.

She works this red eye shadow in one scene. And the highlighting was perfection on her face. She was practically glowing. This picture doesn’t even do her justice.

This promo picture is so pretty again the highlighting and contouring are perfect. She’s again glowing. Her eye makeup is so pretty while being a bit futuristic at the same time!

And can someone make me this please!! That’s the most awesome scarf I’ve seen in a while. I want one! I found one on Etsy but for $150! Geez. They are calling it the Katniss Cowl. Love it.

Speaking of selling, CoverGirl released a limited edition Hunger Games collection with a look for each district. Check it out and let me know which District Collection is your fave!

Have you watched Hunger Games yet?

Lipstick Dupe from Two Broke Girls

One of my co-workers asked me if I can find a lipstick similar to Kat’s Two Broke Girls. I figure she may not be the only one who’d like to check out a similar lip color so I thought I’d share!

It looks like a matte color…

Looks a bit brownish red. Not too bright and not too dark. Here’s what I found that could be pretty similar.

Tarte Lip Tint in Envy. It’s a mauve berry. $24

NYX Cosmetics Soft Matte Lip Cream in Sao Paolo or Monte Carlo $6

NYX Matte Lipstick in Euro Trash $6

Do you like her lip color? I think it would work for a range of skin tones.

Checking out November’s Beauty Box 5

As I mentioned before, I am a Beauty Box 5 Beauty Ambassador. So excited to share monthly reviews and sneak peeks of what’s in that pretty blue box.

November BB5

The five beauty products include a lip balm, deodorant, a moisturizing body wash from Aveeno and a clay mask from Montagne Jennesse. The name is as hard to pronounce as ever but these one time masks are amazing and amazingly cheap. They have every mask you can think of for your face and hair. I was really excited about the mask because I was looking for a deep cleansing clay mask to help bring out the impurities. It was like they read my mind. But it is the perfect time do a deep cleansing facial like this.

The lip balm was also pretty nourishing even though I’m not a fan of citrus. Aveeno is one of my favorite skin care brands and I enjoyed trying that out as well! I love that you full sized along with sample sizes so you can figure out what you like. And sample sizes fit amazingly well in your purse!

Fall Beauty Tips from Pixi & Target plus Review!

Disclaimer: Products were received for review, however I was not compensated for this post. All opinions are my own.

Target has some great beauty tips for fall!

Trend: A Smoky Eye

Pixi Set

The mysterious smoky eye women strive to achieve shouldn’t be such a mystery! “Caso resuelto”!* Target’s Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen Kit ($25) is a great beauty find – with four pens it’s easy and inexpensive to create a unique smoky eye to compliment your fall wardrobe. It is all about knowing your face, and the shades it would compliment.

  • For Brown Eyes: Anthracite grey is a very easy shade to create a beautiful smoky eye. It works best as a base color to then enhance it with a real high definition color like teal, peacock blue, emerald and garnet.
  • For Blue Eyes: A smoky bronze looks sophisticated and is very easy to wear, even as a foray into a darker smoky eye.
  • For Green Eyes: Smoky purple also compliments most eye colors but particularly makes green eyes “pop.”

How to Prep:

  1. If using a vibrant powder, sketch out your smoky eye and use the bright powder on the center of the lid and blend it down with a “polishing” movement to essentially blend the color into the lid or as a liner.
  2. Use the vibrant shade first across the whole of the lid.
  3. Blend with a small-headed brush to graduate the effect with the intensity of pigment close to the lash line, fading as it goes up the lid.
  4. To finish up, simply smoke it up with the grey so you get a seamless, colorful smoky look.
  5. Apply another little bit of smoky shade on the outer corner of the eye for extra sassiness.
  6. Brighten and lighten or line and define your eyes with the Pixi Crayon Combo ($18 each) in Wide Awake, Super Natural and Softly Smoky.
  7. A flawless base goes best with smoky eyes. Two coats of mascara will define the eyes, and contouring the face with a subtle sweep of blush will pronounce the cheekbones.
I’ve got a few pencils but I’m usually a liquid eyeliner girl. Mostly because I have some really oily lids and pencils I have tried in the past have bled into my lids. But this one stayed on all day! And that light peach one is so much better to use than a white eyeliner to make your eyes pop and look rested. Funny because before kids I didn’t sleep  weekends since I was going out. Now I don’t sleep at all because they get up at the crack of dawn! And since I have a full time job I have to look professional (and awake!!) Here are the swatches.

pixi swatches

There’s the usual black, brown plum and the last two are gorg taupe color and that color to make you look awake! I was playing with eyeshadows the other day….

Eye Collage

I loved how creamy and easy it was to put on. For $25 these five eyeliners plus the sharpener is so worth it!

Have you tried Pixi Brand before? What did you think?

Mary Kay’s Limited Edition Fairytales and Fantasy Collection Swatches

Disclosure: I received this product for review but was not other compensated for this post. All views are my own.

Mary Kay’s Limited Edition Fairytales and Fantasy Collection is beyond fall appropriate. I’ve started to dip into the bolder lip and this collection has some lip stains to die for.

love the packaging

The packaging looked like a fairytale book. If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen that one in real time!

mary kay open

This was all the products I found inside..two lipstains, two eye liners and three shadows.

Mary Kay Collage

I actually tried the darker lip stain in Mulberry Forest! Loved the way it look and it had good staying power. The eye shadows were actually cool when applied…as in temperature. I feel like the color didn’t apply well on my eye but could have been the primer I used. No bueno! I’m going to have to try the look again with a different primer. Look how great the shadows looked when I swatched them on my hand! They seem to fade away or just become blah after I applied on my eyes. Primer is such a big deal! It can really make or break your look!

Mary Kay Swatches

Here are swatches of everything I received. I also loved the Golden Illusion eyeliner. So pretty! Not only is the eye liner retractable but it also comes with a smudger. You can throw it in your purse and go! Especially if you’re like me that not only carries one makeup bag but two! I need options! Especially now that I’m dabbling with a dark or bright lip! No nudes for me for a while!

This limited edition collection is super inexpensive running from $14-$16. Run to that Mary Kay consultant to grab your faves before they are sold out!
