personal-microderm-system-2a I must admit, when I opened the box I was a bit intimidated. I mean, we’ve all heard about microdermabrasion and visiting the spa or a dermatologist to get it done, but with my sensitive skin I just shied away from it. And when I saw that you had to plug it in in order to use it definitely intimidated me. I was afraid of having my face just beet red after one use.

So I waited until a Friday night just in case I did end up with this beet red affect after using the at home microdermabrasion. But I was pleasantly surprised! The Microderm is surprisingly easy to use, and NO RED MARKS! You know that’s a big deal. Also, even with my sensitive skin I think that it is ok to use twice a week. I do advise that you play the DVD prior to using it. I think it lessened the intimidation.

Besides the fact that it’s easy to use and didn’t make my face peel, I see an improvement on my face. I have been battling breakouts but I definitely see a change in the texture of my skin as well as it being smoother. My face would be perfect if these breakouts would just go away!!!

If you are concerned about anti-aging and restoring the smoothness and texture to your face this is definitely something for you. And although the price tag may be a bit steep for some at $179, I called around in my area and that’s about how much a spa charges you for one or two sessions of microdermabrasion. And you can do this at the comfort of your own home. And it’s small and portable so you can take it with you when you travel. Just so you get an idea, it’s smaller than my one inch hair iron. So I think it’s definitely worth it!

I have been having a tough time with my skin. Bad for me but good for you guys because that means more product reviews! I just hate this part of summer. My face just gets more acne prone and it also could be a drawback from switching to a new form of birth control…..

But I digress! I instantly loved the way Bremen Emergency Zit Stick looked. I am a sucker for packaging and this is pretty clever. Similar to the size of a lip gloss, the Emergency Zit Stick has an applicator  that helps with more targeted application. It also goes on clear and is small enough to throw in your purse in case you have that zit!

The only drawback is that it does work on those gross whiteheads but not on the ones that don’t come to a head like the ones I’m recently breaking out with. But the one whitehead I did have was gone in about 24 hours! I love when a product does what it says! Without all the caking and drying that can happen with other products. Also, no peeling or redness. Works really well on the skin.

You can find this at Sephora for $21 and is skincare challenge eligible.

This product smells amazing! I love Caress and have reviewed the products before. They smell great, packaged great and best of all don’t make my sensitive skin break out. The Velvet Bliss Body Wash is a very smooth soap smelling of blackberry and vanilla. Sometimes as mami’s we only get those ten or fifteen minutes of quiet in the bathroom. If we’re lucky! Am I right?! So I love to consentirme while in the bathroom. This product is definitely worth checking out for some yummy bathroom time. I love all of Caress line of products and this is a good one for summer!

I have an extra soap bar to give away! Who wants it? Leave me a comment to be entered into the giveaway! Stay cool and bella chicas!

Product Review: Clarins Gentle Refiner with Exfoliator

refiner Along with the Brightening Serum, I received this Gentle Refiner with Exfoliator for review. I was a bit nervous to try it because I was afraid of another breakout or getting redness with my sensitive skin. But as the name mentions, it’s definitely gentle, even for everyday use. I like to use an exfoliator instead of a regular cleanser just because I feel like it gives me a deep down clean. This product also tightens pores and improves skin texture. Minus one small patch of skin on my cheek, I do think it has made my tone more even and my pores smaller. They are huge around my sinus area. But I have definitely noticed smoother skin.

So if  you are thinking about smoother skin and improved skin this is definitely a product you should try! At $28.50, it’s also a bit more affordable than the brightening serum.

Intensive Brightening Smoothing Serum I’ve been busy with these product reviews huh? LOL.  As we get older our skin needs change. We are all unique with unique skin issues. Right now I am starting to get more aware of anti-aging solutions as well as still battling my adult acne. Throw in sensitive skin and you’ve got a mess waiting to happen!

I wanted to try the Brightening Smoothing Serum due to trying to firm up my skin as well as make it more even toned. Here are some of the product features:

Minimizes the appearance of dark spots and helps prevent their reappearance.

  • - Helps firm facial features, smoothes away fine lines.
  • - Illuminates the complexion, restores healthy-looking glow to skin.
  • - Dermatologist tested, non-comedogenic.

After a few weeks of use I did notice a bit of a difference. I am still battling breakouts so that didn’t change. If you have the same concern as I do about adult acne but not about anti-aging then this product may not be for you. Although it has been said that you are never too young to start anti-aging skin care. You can find it at Sephora for $68. You can get free shipping and it’s also skin care challenge eligible

Reader Question: What to do about Acne?

May 17, 2010 by Jai

I recently got an email from a reader, Melissa, who wanted to know what to do about her skin problems.

reader Hey, I’ve been meaning to ask you. What products do you recommend for adult acne? Yep, you heard it right. I’ve been getting zits and pimples like crazy lately and it doesn’t matter if I lay off the sweets or drink lots of agua. I’ve tried products recommended by mags but only got left with a scarred face . I’ve also done natural masks but nada! They worsened the condition.

Here’s my answer to that…

hey you! I have the same issue as well. I’ve tried so many different things and I also have sensitive skin so it’s not pretty. I’ve tried Clinique stuff, Proactive, a whole bunch of things. Right now I’m using:

Olay Definity Pore Redefining Scrub I swear by this. It’s less than $10 too. My skin texture was so bad I wouldn’t leave the house without makeup. I ran out of foundation and went to work without makeup and someone even complimented me on my face. It’s gentle too.

At night I use Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Control Moisturizer and twice daily I also use the Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Control Spot Treatment. You could use the moisturizer during the day but I think it’s too much for my oily skin and my foundation literally comes right off.

When I have a big pimple those hormone ones that you can’t pop that are so gross…I use Blemish Potion which I talked about on the site.

All this has honestly given me clearer skin and also better overall skin appearance.

Product Review: Burt’s Bees Radiance Day Lotion

Along with the Burt’s Bees Lemon Body Oil I also received this Radiance Day Lotion. I have to say I wasn’t in love with it. At least not as much as the Body Oil.

This wonderfully natural day lotion is specially formulated with royal jelly, one of nature’s most nourishing substances, to help renew and enhance skin’s natural radiance. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide provide broad spectrum protection to reflect the sun’s harmful UVA/UVB rays, which are associated with premature aging. So you get younger looking skin, naturally.

Sounds great doesn’t it? I’m not really sure why I didn’t go all wild over it. This product is ok but I wouldn’t run out to get it. I think the smell put me off a bit. Again, nothing too strong but just enough to turn my nose off. Does it do what it claims? Not sure. Because honestly that smell was enough for me to not want to put it on under my makeup. And since the SPF15 that is included in the lotion is also in my makeup, there’s no motivation for me to add it. Because it’s not like 15+15 would get me SPF 30. It still gets me SPF 15. So the jury is still out over here. At $18 for a 2 oz bottle I just don’t know how I feel about it.  But if you have tried this out let me know what you thought!

Vitamin E Oil Bottle 001 During the winter months my skin tends to dry. Not my face (boo!) but my arms and legs mostly. Especially those knees and elbows that tend to be problem areas anyway. I like to use Johnson’s Baby Oil but I’ve heard such good things about the Burt’s Bees brand that I had to try out this Body Oil.

The Burt’s Bee’s Lemon & Vitamin E Body Oil can be used two ways. You can put a teaspoon in your bath water and soak in it (sounds good after a long day!) or you can apply the way I usually apply baby oil, which is on damp skin right after a bath.

I really like this product, especially the smell. It’s a great lemon smell but light, not overpowering at all. I’ve also used this on my feet with good results. It’s not too oily but it does the job of keeping your skin moisturized. I have found that I have to definitely apply quite a bit of it though to get the desired effect. But for $8 for a 4 oz bottle, I don’t mind running back out to replenish my supply! Bonus: I love that the ingredients are all natural!

Have you tried this Body Oil? What do you think of the Burt’s Bees Brand?

Product Review: Patricia Wexler Intensive Night Reversal & Repair Creme

wexler I know you ladies love your product reviews so here goes! I’ve been trying out the Patricia Wexler Intensive Night Reversal & Repair Creme for a few weeks. I’m always so afraid with skincare reviews due to my sensitive skin. But I figure I’d try it out and brave the consequences in the name of beauty! Plus, I do have my blemish potion that works great! Sold at Bath & Body Works, the Patricia Wexler Intensive Night Reversal & Repair Creme claims to do the following:

  • Visibly lifts and diminishes lines by morning
  • Speeds recovery from daily environmental damage
  • Targets the appearance of deep expression lines and slackened skin

Now, I am in my last twenty (29!) but they say it’s never to early to start on your anti-aging skin care. And my skin has just been horrible lately especially with tone and texture. So I figure I’d give this a try. I must say I love it! At $42.50 it’s pricier than the other products at Bath & Body Works but it’s a good sized tub. And it’s so creamy that although it states “apply generously” I apply about the same as I would sunscreen or moisturizer. My skin is a bit on the oily side so I don’t do generous. But if your skin is normal or dry I say go for it with the generosity!

It has a light fragrance, nothing to get all excited about but hey, you’re only going to bed right? I have no breakouts from using this and my skin is definitely radiant and did I mention SOFT? I can’t believe it.  Now I can’t say much about the products claims to diminish lines because I don’t have any just yet! On the site, the product has received a 4.2 out of 5 which is definitely not bad. It’s also received a 2008 Siempre Mujer Best of Beauty Awards. This is only one product in a line of products from Patricia Wexler. I definitely suggest you go to your nearest Bath & Body Works to try this one out for yourself! Stay bella!

Product Review: Blemish Potion

This product was received for review by the makers of Blemish Potion. Mami’s Time Out has not been compensated in any way for this review.

blemish I was very interested in this Blemish Potion which by the way I love. I’ve been trying different kinds of acne creams and they weren’t working too well for me at all. Either they did nothing for my pimple or they made my skin flake and get bright red.

The blemish potion is different from everything I’ve ever tried for a few reasons. One, it’s got a handy little applicator (almost like a nail polish brush without the brush at the end) so you don’t use your fingers to apply. This makes for more precise application right on the pimple. Also, it doubles as a cover up. It goes underneath your makeup and acts like a concealer. You apply twice a day once in the morning under makeup and once again at night. In the morning it’s still there fighting to dry out that pimple.

I love that it attacks the pimple without going overboard. For someone like me with sensitive skin, it just works great at drying out the pimple without giving you a harsh reaction. My pimple was noticeably smaller in a few days without any side effects. It comes in a few different tones, I used light and it was matched as concealer perfectly. You can find Blemish Potion at Amazon for $18. This gets a huge thumbs up from me!
