Just Launched: Vogue Curvy
For us curvy chicas, there is now a website dedicated to us! Vogue Curvy is an extension of the Vogue brand. You can find a great site with how to’s, a blog, fashion and accessories, and lots more. They also feature Latina America Ferrera as a Curvy Icon. You go girl! They also have daily suggestions for outfits.
“We are extremely excited about the launch of Vogue Italia’s curvy site, as this is yet another example of the ways in which plus size women are being empowered and respected as trendsetters in the industry, as much as their size 0 counterparts. This is an important move and could be the catalyst for higher end designers and media to cater to real women,” – noted Stephanie, Sobel, President of OneStopPlus.com Group.
In case you don’t know, One Stop Plus is the world’s first and largest plus size web mall who can offer expert commentary on what this move means for the fashion industry. They have a great selection and I have written about them before in Tips for Dressing for your Curves.
No matter what size you are…stay bella!
Dressing up for spring
So I have this love/hate relationship with dresses. Not too sure why. Maybe because when I was younger I wasn’t allowed to wear pants due to my religion. So when I became of age and chose my own path, all I owned was pants. Not only that but the dresses that I did own were horribly destroyed during a move. Recently though, I’ve decided to become more girly again and try dresses out. I wore a dress to a holiday party and my hubby’s 30th surprise party (which was a blast by the way!) and since lightening didn’t strike I figured maybe dresses are ok to wear again, at least once in a while.
I do own a sweater dress that I received as a birthday gift but I just hate tights and stockings. Always have and always will. But this spring, as soon as the snow melts I may be making some dress purchases. I need some staples. A cute hanging out with the girlies dress (hellooooooo diva night!) A nice shirt dress for work and some cute hanging out dresses. My fashionable new year’s resolution is to show off these legs of mine that are actually enviously skinny! Now I’m wondering why I hide the skinniest part of my body. Hmmmmm….
What are your favorite pair of jeans?
I have been lucky enough to lose some of the last of my “baby weight” in the past year (wait can you call it baby weight when you have a toddler?) but now my jeans are not fitting me correctly. I am on the hunt for the perfect pair of jeans because I wear jeans almost daily to work so they are an important part of my wardrobe. Although I’m going for dresses this spring and summer, I still need at least three good pair of jeans. Right now I have maybe two out of all my pairs that fit me well. Before I completely throw in the towel, I’m going on a hunt!
So in the comments section, give me some suggestions. What is your favorite brand? Right now I really don’t have one. Jeans come in different cuts and styles and you should definitely pick one that flatters your body type. I have a smaller waist (wepa!) and then curvy through the hips and thighs. If I can only get rid of my stomach that looks like a deflated balloon I would be so proud of myself right now! But instead I always have to go a size bigger so that my jeans fit me at the hips and thighs but then I either need a belt or they are literally falling off of me. Of course the trend right now is to wear belts over your clothes so there’s no way I will be wearing two belts!
I may start a series of post on my hunt for the best pair of jeans for us curvy chicas. So stay tuned!
Style Worth Stealing: Zoe Saldana
Fellow Dominicana Zoe has great style, even though she’s got some hit or misses. This dress is absolutely lovely and I searched the web to find a similar dress for cheap!
WHITE KIMONO SLEEVES COCKTAIL CLUB MINI BOHO DRESS WITH BELT $44.99 at Amazon. It’s a bit short though….
Saldana’s dress…what do you think about her dress? I love it! And I love Zoe for showing us that Latina Beauty comes in all colors! She’s fab!

Check out Afingo, a fashion-centric online forum that is revolutionizing the world of fashion as it merges with social networking. The site designed to consumers, retailers, “in the biz” professionals and designers has recently launched.
“The idea of going social is a bit unnerving and unfamiliar to the industry because many do not know how to translate these personal experiences online. Afingo.com is the first-ever Web-based roundtable where all four building blocks of the fashion world – designers, retailers, in the biz professionals and consumers – meet. We have designed a virtual cocktail party for anyone who loves fashion,” says Liza Deyrmenjian, CEO & Co-founder of Afingo.com.

Fashion Helps Haiti!
We are all devastated by the tragic events that happened in Haiti last week. As a Dominicana, it definitely hits close to home. In the wake of the Haitian Earthquake crisis, famed LA-based t-shirt line, Kid Dangerous Grime Couture, designed the “HELP HAITI” tee, with all proceeds going to the One Dome At A Time Emergency Fund. With the help of companies like Kid Dangerous, One Dome at a Time is providing immediate relief and working to rebuild housing in Port-au-Prince. The “domes” are rated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency as Near-Absolute Protection from natural disasters including earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes and fire.
The design of the t-shirts, available in Men’s sizes S-XXL and Women’s sizes S-L, builds upon the Haitian flag, featuring the Haitian coat of arms and reads in distressed block lettering, simply “HELP HAITI”. Kid Dangerous opted to retail the t-shirts at the lower price of $35, (these luxury tees normally retail anywhere from $45-90) in order to get awareness out and encourage people to get involved and donate. T-shirts are available for pre-order on the Kid Dangerous website,www.kiddangerous.com and will be available for delivery by January 22nd.
For further information, check out the One Dome At A Time Charity.
Do Over or Perfect Outfit on Christina Milian?
Here’s a recent picture of Christina Milian showing her baby bump at the BET Awards. What do you think of her outfit? Is it cute…would you wear it if you were pregnant? I just don’t know about this outfit. Can’t wait to read the comments!

Baby Phat Jeans at Walmart!
You know Baby Phat is one of my favorite brands so I had to share this with you. During one of my most recent trips to Walmart I spied what I thought were Baby Phat knock offs. Hubby stated there was no way they can replicate a logo like that without bordering on infringement. So after I took a closer look I realized they were genuine Baby Phat jeans. They only had two washes a light and dark wash and they were $20. I bought them thinking I may return them anyway because I expected a lower quality jean. I tried it on when I got home and they are a nice pair of jeans! They don’t have the detail that the "regular" Baby Phat jeans have but they are still good quality. They are midrise which I love and you can’t find that rise as much as others. I hate the muffin top that comes with Mami-hood when you wear a low rise pair of jeans. So I give them two thumbs up, if you find them at your local Walmart, check them out!
***And since this Mami is abiding by the FTC rules that will be in effect on December 1, 2009….this was not a paid endorsement in any way. I bought my own pair of jeans.

Mexican Jewelry designer Sabido & Basteris on ALMA Awards
I know the ALMA awards were a few days back but I really wanted to share this with you. Mexican Jewelry designer Sabido & Basteris outfitted ALMA award participants such as CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien, Benito Ramirez, Jordana Brewstar, Mario Lopez and award winner David Archuleta.
“To be from Mexico and to participate in the Alma Awards is a truly one of a kind memorable experience, I am so honored to be a part of this unique combination of culture and entertainment”, says designer Victor Sabido Basteris, “This will be a night to remember”.
Completely set apart from its predecessors, Sabido & Basteris combines fine jewelry design with cutting edge technology to dye silver using natural materials to create ribbons of rainbows. The line is distinguished by brilliant colors and silver thread that is weft in a completely unique way. This visionary company is setting the standard with their fine jewelry designs that are a fashionable alternative to traditional offerings.
These two pieces are so eye catching! Enjoy!
